What is worse?

Those that overstay their visa that fly in (majority)

or

Those that arrive by boat.......with the possibily of seeking asylum (unlikely) and sent back.

I generally keep up with what is going on and don't understand the governments fixation with boats when the numbers are the clear minority.

If breaches are reported, does the department just ignore them?

Education providers will be required to report students who breach course progress or attendance requirements to us and must still  inform the student that they intend to report the visa condition breach.

They work here donna,save their money and leave before their visa expires. They take what they save back home.Someone from say Estonia can get more than double working on a building site than they earn back home.Even though farm workers get less than $20 per hour, it's triple what they get in Taiwan.

They just appeal untill they win the lottery, this is a couple of years old but it still goes on

Conditions are very strict of those on student visa's. They  have their attendance recorded for tutorials etc. If they don't attend class and therefore won't pass their exams that will affect their eligibility to remain as well. Australian Uni's wouldn't cope financially without the extra income foreign students bring.

For example, the thread here about the young man from Vietnam who was bashed and unable to attend Uni for part/most of a semesterThat affected his eligiblity to remain in Aust on a student visa.

When I was at Uni we signed/initialed attendance sheets for every weekly tutorials/workshops/seminars. The form was handed around the class to sign

Some foreign students would sign in for their friends if they were absent. So 1 or 2 go to class and sign in for the rest that don't.

However, they come unstuck one day when there was only about 8 in the class (the tutor was useless) and they signed in about 20 names of absent students.

How many fly in each day?

How many bogus claims are made by those on student visas seeking asylum?....as an example

How many just stay and hide?

How many potential overstayers?

The problem is larger than reported, I'd rather take someone that was so desperate that they got on a boat than someone with a bogus claim with papers.

It was to demonstrate the numbers, well that is why I started the thread because the government does seem to be fixated on those that come via boat when clearly more fly in.

How does the repsonse in the 2nd quote demonstrate/validate there are more overstayers on visas who fly in than IMA's?

I have friends that came here on student visas and yes, they needed to attend, study and pass.

Conditions may be strict and they are only supposed to work limited hours but the reality is very different.
