Why are Atheists so militant, strident and intolerant of people with religious beliefs?

How do they know there's no God? It's just a belief system.

Until the mid 1500's the Catholic Bible was only able to be interepreted by the papist clergy - Latin - no English versions.

William Tyndale (a Lutheran, supporter of the New beleifs of Martin Luther) was tasked with interpeting the Old Testament into English for the common people.

Now 3 things about that:

1. Interpret really leaves room for MIS-interpretation as well

2. The fact he was of the Evangelical and Lutheran faith, one could assume the interpretation was/could be biased.

3. Englands break from Rome and ex-comm of Henry VIII caused a lot of desention with the differing religious factions,and during

    the reign of both Henry and (later) Mary Tudor (Bloody Mary) alot of subjects worshipped secretly, afraid to declare thier religion

either way, written by men, understood by few, read by many and interpreted who knows how many ways?
