sorry secondhand but your response is anything but simple.
At what point is a person able to choose their own fate, future work, future lifestyle and future god to believe in?
I still harp back to children, how can a good god do what is happening to children the world over, if he is omnipotent shouldn't he step in to save the children?
If he doesn't step in then god does look pretty bad.

- they just are Bob. without bad, we couldnt know good. light dark, up down etc.
talking about god, as this thread seems to be, I think Carlin summed him up the best.
If this is the best God can do, I am not impressed. Results like these do not belong on the résumé of a Supreme Being. This is the kind of **bleep** you'd expect from an office temp with a bad attitude.
if there is a God, I think most reasonable people might agree that he's at least incompetent, and maybe, just maybe, doesn't give a **bleep**.

I had an interesting conversation today with someone who was molested as a child.
She told me it was rife in her family. A grandfather, then an uncle, then her male cousins of similar age.
Her female cousin group of similar age were also involved. They all knew about each other yet they didn't tell a parent or older sibling either.
I asked why as she was 13 the last time it occurred, she didn't tell someone? and she said she doesn't know, none of them ever thought about telling, they thought it was normal.
I hesitate to believe they thought it was normal, if it was normal wouldn't you think it would be spoken about?
Not discussing it would have been normal too.
Kids who can't hear or see properly sometimes say the same thing, they thought that's just the way it was for everyone.

Yes, I suppose so, I just find it hard to understand. I have not given it a great deal of thought as yet.

I wonder if it depends on your society whether you are 'bad'.
Just thinking of people with an antisocial personality disorder (psychopaths), one of their main common features is lack of empathy. In a society such as ours this lack, which may allow them to harm or control another without it having any effect on themselves, is considered a bad thing. In another society, or even another situation in our society, such as war, it may be desirable.
Just a thought.

Interesting article and responses in the comments.
I imagine, as I can't really know, the man has reached his breaking point? Seems unfair that this writer judges him so harshly.
Mr Lanza did not say it to his son.

The first 7 years of a childs life is the MOST important.

That is very very old thinking. It has long been known that how the child is treated in the first three years shapes them forever. Some damage done in that period cannot be undone and is permanently debilitating.

It's not about choosing your own fate, it's about the decisions one makes along the way that shape ones destiny imo. For example if I studied law at university and passed well, chances are I will end up working as a lawyer or barrister or even a partner in a law firm, make a heap of money and live in a condo in the city. I'd say it would be pretty unlikely I would end up working in a cafe and renting in the suburbs.
Of course small children have all the decisions made for them. If they have been harmed or made orphaned ect it's the actions of adults that have put them in such a predicament. I dont really see how the actions of "bad" people can be attributed to god. Or how it can been seen as a reflection of Gods "goodness" IMO these children you speak of "the world over"are more likely to be a product of a society that doesn't believe in God or (and I'm going out on a limb here because I know Christianity is highly frowned upon these days by alot of people most predominantly the mass media) the teachings of Christ. (And at the risk of ridicule) I'd like to just add that if people really did practice the three simple teachings of Christ 1. Love God 2. Love your neighbour and 3, Honour your mother and father the world really would be a better place.
