In most cases I agree with you.

Some with some mental illness have no control over their actions, but those are exceptional cases.

Some people are bad because they never felt happy while they were good.

Very sad situation.

Well, I was answering the Op's question.

Why are some people bad?.

Yes Erica I agree,   some people enjoy being bad, why I don't know, you'd have to walk in their shoes to now that wouldnt you.

I don't believe in the saying that all babies are born good.  As for nature/nurture..I don't think it's an either/or....but a combination of both.

We don't just inherit the good genes, and also don't necessarily grow up into bad people just because our parents acted like that and it was our normal.

Woman SadI had an interesting conversation today with someone who was molested as a child.

She told me it was rife in her family. A grandfather, then an uncle, then her male cousins of similar age.

Her female cousin group of similar age were also involved. They all knew about each other yet they didn't tell a parent or older sibling either.

I asked why as she was 13 the last time it occurred, she didn't tell someone? and she said she doesn't know, none of them ever thought about telling, they thought it was normal.

I hesitate to believe they thought it was normal, if it was normal wouldn't you think it would be spoken about?

There's a doctor who is going to study the DNA of people like mass murderers genes...starting with adam lanza.

He's looking for what he calls "the evil gene".

The 20 year old also shot dead his mother Nancy before taking his own life as police closed in on him at the Sandy Hook elementary school in Connecticut.

The massacre prompted President Obama to look into new gun controls and banning assault rifles such as AR-15 Bushmaster used by Lanza in his rampage.

The study of the killerโ€™s DNA has been ordered by Connecticut Medical Examiner H. Wayne Carver who carried out the post mortems on all the victims.

He has contacted geneticists at University of Connecticutโ€™s to conduct the study.

Didn't he have a mental illness?  Severe autism or something?

The father of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanzasaid his son would have killed him if he'd had the opportunity.

"With hindsight, I know Adam would have killed me in a heartbeat, if he'd had the chance," Peter Lanza told New Yorker magazine in an interview that appears in the March 17 issue.

It's the first time Peter Lanza has spoken publicly about his son.

"The reason he shot Nancyfour times was one for each of us: one for Nancy; one for him; one for (his brother) Ryan; one for me," he said.

Authorities say Adam Lanza, 20, killed his mother, Nancy, before fatally shooting 20 children, six staff members and himself at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut, in December 2012.

Peter Lanza said his son talked with many mental health professionals but none saw violent tendencies in his personality.

He said he may have overlooked troubling signs himself by accepting a diagnosis of Asperger's syndrome, though he doesn't think Asperger's caused the violence.

"Asperger's makes people unusual, but it doesn't make people like this," he said.

He also said his ex-wife didn't detect the potential for violence.

"She never confided to her sister or best friend about being worried," he said. "She slept with her bedroom door unlocked and kept guns in the house, which she would not have done if she were frightened."

Final report on Newtown school shooting released

Peter Lanza said he thought his son was "a normal, weird little kid" but by the time he reached middle school "it was crystal clear something was wrong."

"The social awkwardness, the uncomfortable anxiety, unable to sleep, stress, unable to concentrate, having a hard time learning, the awkward walk, reduced eye contact," he said. "You could see the changes occurring."

He said he thinks about his son and the massacre every waking hour.

"You can't get any more evil," he said. "How much do I beat up on myself about the fact that he's my son? A lot."

He said he's offered to meet victims of the shooting and two families took him up on the offer.

"It's gut-wrenching," he said. "A victim's family member told me that they forgave Adam after we spent three hours talking. I didn't even know how to respond. A person that lost their son, their only son."

I believe he did. It would be interesting to see the results of thousands of these kinds of people (not people with autism, but mass murderers).

With todays DNA technology they can use samples from people long dead giving them an endless supply of samples to chose from.

Everyone has the capacity to be good and bad - but in varying degrees. If there was no "bad" how would we recognise what is "good"? And vise versa.

I don't think much of this christian god. He seems prone to throwing hissy fits....

Bump said: I believe that no god if he was good would do to children what is happening to them the world over.

How can anyone justify what happens to children as being god's work?

If the lord does work in mysterious ways it is about time he explained himself because I am not seeing any good from any god and if we are to believe in god than we are to believe in all that is bad with the world as well as all that is good.

either god is repsonsible for everything or he is responsible for nothing.

Omnipotent? thats we were taught, so surely all should be good in the world and he should protect us from the bad or does he like people to be bad so that the good suffer, and if he wants the good to sufffer, why?

If good comes from belief in god then so does bad.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My simple response to that is most that believe in god would say that it was he who gave us freedom of choice.  So does that mean that the freedom to choose is bad or that people just tend to make bad choices?
