Why do people get personal?

When discussing topics that they have an opposing view to.

When you repeatedly state that c02 levels are static........people will be giggling..... and doubt your ability for intelligent discussion...

And you repeatingly showing that you cannot grasp the simple fact that levels of CO2 remained stable withing the margins suitable to support life as we know it for very long time.   The present level appears to be the highest in the past 800,000 yearsand likely the highest in the past 20 million years, and rising.

There has been 4 billion years of change......grasp that.........Woman Very Happy

SRBA ; "There has been 4 billion years of change......grasp that.........
Agreed, but naturally occurring change(s) over and within that period. (remember: "rate of change")

Some 2 million years ago the first genus Homo started appearing, in 1800 the world population was 1 billion, now it is 7 billion.

A look at the graphs below would be enough for an average person to conclude a causal connection between population and   GHG concentration based upon man's activities/presence and the loci of the graphs, then by applying a knowledge of basic atmospheric physics one would expect a slow increase in global  temperatures (thermal inertia) which would then translate into climatic variation.

I must point out (again) that the rate of change of GHG concentration since 1800 is orders of magnitude greater than any natural variation within 4 billion years of natural change,  "rate of change" is so much more  important, and of course:   trend,  and let's not forget absolute values.

I think John is being personal, he does it with graphs, so it is still on topic Smiley Very Happy

It's his way to agree with me, that the climate on Earth has been changing for 4.5 billion years.

Re: Why do people get personal?

This reply is to nobody in particular, but there's no way to reply to "all".

I think some people get personal because they're miserable and negative, so it's the only way they know how to find enjoyment. I also think some feel disempowered and friendless in real life, so they flex their typewritten muscles online.

"It's his way to agree with me, that the climate on Earth has been changing for 4.5 billion years."

With the obvious scientific comment (overlooked )  that man-made change is a few orders of magnitude greater and at a rate of change far in excess of any  change in natural history.

DY: "Why do people get personal"

I  thought the title  had echoes of  Poor Me Gillard and would thus resonate with the matriarchs,  anyway   it is more of a challenge attempting to teach SRBA some basic earth sciences (facts).
