Why do people get personal?

I take it that you dislike the notion of knowing the answer before asking a question.

in reply to the OP . People often get personal (in this context ) as some opinions can only be held in ignorance . which is a personal failing.. therefore addressing the failing can't help but get personal.

but i would add it has a place in an inquiry setting or court of law. a chatboard is different in that respect.

So in your opinion it is OK to lie on a chat board but not OK in court.
