Very young age to go on international exchange?
Very young age to not return from an exchange visit.
Not very good supervision from the host parents (new baby).
I think there is more to the story than the tid bits we've heard. She must have felt very isolated at times. I wonder why the girls didn't learn any English from their mother while growing up and why they didn't get to holiday with their Australian family.

Yes, never going to know the whole story.
When this blew up 3 years ago... maybe it was in the court transcript.. it mentioned the girls Grandma (from Aust) came over to Italy with a boyfriend when the family there were still together. The girls parents arranged a rental car for them.. they took off in it, never brought it back on time (or not at all, can't remember the finer details but left a hefty bill)... very irresponsible and took advantage of the family in Italy.

That's not a good sign if it's the truth.

The court transcripts made good background reading, if they are still available.

On what knowledgeable basis have you arrived at a conclusion that deserves the statement....... That speaks volumes to me.

Huh? That doesn't even make sense.
It is my opinion, and I have the right to my opinion, sams as you do.

i'm pretty sure deb was not suggesting
you don't have the right to your opinion.
she simply wanted to understand the
reasons behind your opinion

No, I did not know that.
The reasons for my opinion are in my post.
So, I don't know why he/she made the comment.
