He can't I guess because he died in 2001.
He was a prominent liquor retailer in Victoria.
In 1988, Murphy was charged with conspiring to defraud the tax commissioner of $2 million in sales tax and was sentenced to two and half years jail (he served only six months due to failing health), fined $10,000 and forced to repay the sales tax and fines.

What's the point of the thread?
Dan Murphy stores are now owned by Woolworths
Do you have a link to the story that you've posted?

No real point I guess apart from showing that alcoholics really don't care as long as the booze is cheap.

He was an astute businessman and lke many such overdid it and paid for it, As for cheap wine he said his favourite was Latour (well so would mine be if i sold the house ... oh wait, I already am).
But I don't see why he is singled out to be criticized, alcohol is a fact of life , and so easy to come by.
Maybe the op knew him and he didn't offer them a botle of Latour (like with the reporter)?

Does there have to be a point to the story?
It's just a general topic of interest, a bit of history.
I didn't realise Dan Murphy was a real person either.
Thank you for posting.

It's in the category of 'Who gives a rat's rrse?'
If you didn't know he was a real person, then you've missed some current
affairs along the way.
