Wind Farms

Would you mind living under one? If yes why?

Do you know anyone that does live close to one? Any stories?

Many are approved for around this area. I've heard them click click clicking around Cape Nelson not sure I'd like to live under that

Re: Wind Farms

We have them around here, yes the farmers are paid to have them on their properties, but very few of those landholders actually live on those properties. I feel very sorry for people that do live near them and have met two families that believe they suffer negatively from them.

One of those families was from Victoria and they had moved from the family home after decades because of the effects on them from the turbines. Another couple that I've met were paid to have them years ago in the first installation, but certainly regret it now, they are an older couple and have been to the media, protests etc. They try to spend as little time at home as they can.

If you look into it, with the costs of building, running and maintaining the turbines they are not very economical and are heavily subsidised.

In answer to your question there is no way I'd want to live witihin a few miles of a windfarm. I believe they can be very detrimental to peoples health (depending on location/lay of the land) and if we are going to have them then put them offshore.

Re: Wind Farms

It's not even the audible noise that seems to be the problem, if you stand near them you feel them pulse through you. I think it's this that is more the problem, the relentlessness of it. They actually talk about the infrasound, so the noise you can't hear but still affects you. I don't think it's as simple as how close you live and has alot to do with how your dwelling is sited and impacted by the motion of the blades, so someone living directly under one may not be impacted as much as someone a km or two away.

There has been plenty of coverage in the local paper over the years, both for and against. There is plenty of information on line re wind turbine syndrome, again both for and against. I believe the original hosts of the turbines signed confidentiality contracts, if they want there annual fee they don't speak out against them.

Re: Wind Farms

I've been in houses that have wind turbines, they're only audible in fairly strong winds. I wouldn't like to live close to a major wind farm. The repetitive noise would send you bonkas. The power would be great...and clean...

Re: Wind Farms

I don't know much about them except that we've driven past them a few times (great ocean Rd. I think) . I know they're good clean energy but they look a bit scary, as if the fan part is going to fall off. I think it's one of those situations that people want them around, but not in their own back yards. Wasn't there somewhere in Vic someone stopped them being installed due to an endangered bird species?

Re: Wind Farms

Don't know what the noise level is like, but I hear they pay pretty good for it to be on your property.
