I just installed windows 10, in like Flynn. It looks nice and clean but too much stuff on my task bar now so I'll have to sort out what I need and what I want to get rid of.
Has anyone else done it and any tips? I'm a bit too busy to muck around much today but any good pointers would be nice and for a start, how do you shut down your computer?!!

Thanks Ivy. I've set it to off but you can leave it on and select just for your own local network. Another good tip.

I've been tinkering around with Linux, more spicifically, Ubuntu. Thats an open sorce OS, and from what I hear, immune to viruses. Problem is in finding all the software needed to play music and videos, or get wireless internet access. Those "coetics" as i understand they are called, are illusive and hard to find.
There's plenty of discussion boards, postings on whats needed, but no clear link, or direction to a site with these apps. Overcoming this obstical, would mean I can use Linux, and leave windows behind.

I installed min yesterday, and so far so good, definitely an improvement on 8. Once I found the POWER button and got rid of some things I do not want, I am happy, so far........... 🙂

Thanks Ivy, that's a valuable tip. I did the same as Joono, left it on but restricted it to PCs on my local network. Saves downloading a separate update for each device and keeps things secure.
I don't mind the new layout, although I got a bit lost trying to connect a bluetooth speaker. With 8.1, I'd swipe from the right side of the page, type bluetooth into "Search everywhere" and it would guide me there in a few steps. Do the same in Win 10 and it looks very different - there's no "Search" and, even though the same functions seem to be there, I had to dig around a bit. The "Search the web and Windows" feature didn't help.
I guess there's another way of looking at it. When you swipe from the right side in 8.1, you don't get many options, so you need "Search". In 10, you get heaps of options and just need to get used to navigating them.
I've noticed that, when you play around with settings, there's no need anymore to click on "Apply", "Confirm" etc. A bit of streamlining.

Looks like an enforced update coming up for me.

Microsoft is reminding me of Ebay.
Mess around with a reasonably good operating system, make new Mc improvements and pss off your customers in the knowledge that they can't go anywhere else and refuse to support the older system so the customers have no choice but to "upgrade".
I understand that Microsoft's newer operating systems will be a download from the internet only and no hard-copy disc from now on.
What I resent the most, is the interminable and merciless drive to screw the very last cent from the customer.
IBM made machines. Microsoft makes the operating systems but doesn't sell them but only licences the user to use them, which disadvantages the user to the benefit of the seller licenser.
It's a great business strategem for them but I'm still left with this feeling of being ripped off.

My computer is probibly too old for it, 2GB of memory according to system information, 149GB hard drive according to the disk defragmenter, Intel celeron D 3.2GHz according to the sticker on front of tower. Will that run windows 10?

Sorry to bump an old thread but something interesting just happened with Windows 10.
I just got a News message pop up telling me that Malcolm Turnbull had challenged. You could click on it to be taken to the story.
How good is that?!!
