A woman has recorded the moment she was refused a pedicure from a US nail salon after staff told her she was too large to fit in the chair.
Rachel Bascue was denied treatment at Regal Nails Salon in Hot Springs, Arkansas just one day after her mother was also refused a pedicure at the salon for the same reason.
On her second attempt to have a pedicure Ms. Bascue secretly recorded her conversation with salon staff on her mobile phone.
In the footage a male employee can be heard telling Ms Bascue she is too fat and would break the chair.
"You cannot (fit) over 250 lbs (112kg). You don't fit.
"I've tried to tell you too many times. It's not fit for you. It's dangerous. It's for your own benefit," the employee continued.
Ms Bascue said despite the employees claims, she and her mother had both been treated at the salon in the past without any problems.
She conceded the public humiliated she suffered during the altercation with salon staff was the worst abuse she has experience.
"I have been talked about and made fun of, but this is the first time I was made to feel like a freak," Bascue told NBC.
"I shouldn't be discriminated (sic), nobody should be made to feel like that."
Umm I have opinions about this, but I won't say what they are yet, want to see what others think.

I think if someone is that size, she probably can't do her own pedicure......I am less than 70kg and I can't.
As for someone "playing with the feet"..... I don't think it matters what size the feet are, they are still feet and it obviously is what some choose to do for a job.
Personal hygiene is not reliant on size.

All feet are yuck.

OK I finally had a look at the link.
They, the shop people, said their chairs cannot support weight over 112kg.
The woman in question is well over 112kg. I'd say she's probably about 150kg.

most big people are happy people

I don't think fat ppl are happy people, they just live the illusion.
I think people will be happy or unhappy regardless of weight, size, wealth or any of the external factors this society judges by.

THey could save themselves the money and do each others pedicures.
If I had a daughter, i would, but I've only got sons.
I might bother one of my sisters-in-law to do it, I don't have any sisters either, just brothers.

I've just now returned to catch up on this thread. Way to go, Vampire Teddy! Good on you for your sound perspective and good heart. If only everyone thought the same as you.

I had to go in to my nail place to get a quick repair done on one nail, while there, I had a good look at the pedicure chairs. They have a massage facility as well, so I expect a larger than usual person could potentially damage the workings.
All this talk has made me want a pedi.......so I booked one to have on Friday with my usual manicure.B-)
I guess it is a good opening for someone to provide a bigger chair......

Az, I think it would be a great idea to provide a bigger and stronger chair.
I usually only get a pedicure in Thailand ... where I am taller, heavier and bigger than most of the local women ...

Hospitals now have extra wide wheelchairs and toilet chairs.

If they did invest in a 250 pound plus chair, I wonder how they would advertise it?
