I was just reading Donnas thread which brought up some of my favourite words. Like nong. Nong is probably the best - it has just the right amount of put-down and there is no come back.
My other favourite is nincompoop.
Yours?

Twerp is an old one my old man used on me.
You sound like you could have been a bit of a mug lair (usually reserved for the type of young man who drilled holes in his muffler).
My (first) husband likes to refer to our boys as peanuts occassionally too....

Shags (and cormorants) sit on a rock doing nothing other than holding their wings out for a long time. This is because their wings are not protected from getting wet by their own natural oils (like a duck), thus enabling them to dive further for longer, to fish.
Downside is their feathers take a long time to dry, meaning they have to sit around like a shag on a rock.

I think it refers to hanging around apparantly doing nothing constructive!
