anyone else have a barking dog next door?

I have lived in our home here for nearly 30 yrs.  Never had dog problems:-(  The last 18 months has been TERRIBLE.

2 doors down had  a dog that has left me that anxious that barked hours and hours until its voicebox squeaked.  Owner said to council i dont care im not home to hear it.  All us neighbours were about to take him to court and thank goodness he sold the house and left. Council  is hopeless they do nothing he got 5 fines and didnt pay.   2 WEEKS later metres from our house at the back new neighbours moved in with a dam other new dog and then the next WEEK neighbours behind us even closer about 7 metres from their house to ours got a new puppy let it bark at the back at their back door.  Thought it was quiet the dog has gone and last week that neighbour had a english bulldog which i never heard.  THe other neighbours behind us moved as the  house went for sale. It WAS SO QUIET for 2 months i would sit outside and just relax thinking how relaxing it was to just have quiet.

WELL these eldery couple has just got a new DAM PUPPY she lets it out early in the morning and lets it yappy yap yap 3 barks a second right near our bedroom window.  I drove around and shes home i saw her come to the window.  WHY WOULD YOU LET A DAM DOG metres around other homes just let it yap for ages.  Its under the verandah so it just echoes right through our home.  Im back again closing the sliding doors, windows and putting the tv on and i still can hear that dam mutt of a dog.

Rang the council yet again and they are hopeless.  We have just finished extending and our home is pretty large now everything is done and i dont want to move but my nerves cant take it:-(

AND the other  neighbours right behind us on our double storey i heard some crying and they have a new BLUE HEELER dog.  The council told me they need to be walked 15 kms a day.  Their back yard is tiny and right near our back family room and bedroom.

Im about to write these other neighbours a letter but HONESTLY common sense why move into a new neighbourhood and just ignore its yapping so dam rude!!!

sorry just need to vent.  I have a golden and we have taught him from day one not to bark and the other neighbour thought he was gone as he never hears our dog.

Tippy, sounds like a living hell.

Ive never understood why people get dogs and leave them outside all day by themselves. IMO its not fair to the animal.

How can a dog bark for hours and hours and not be distressed?

Its not the dogs fault that the owner is too stupid to train it not to bark at leaves/ wind/ random passing cars! and I imagine they think the dog will work as a watchdog! Joke..

The thing is, that your complaints are not only about the dogs behaviour- what the Council and these irresponsible dog owners are failing to understand, is that you are also complaining about the behaviour of the owners of the dogs..

edited to add- I have had 2 dogs, both outside dogs and would never treat them like these owners..

Re: anyone else have a barking dog next door?

THAT STUPID MUTT

No it is the STUPID OWNER. I'm shouting because that's how these owners make me feel.    Dogs are not stupid they are highly intelligent but when they fall into the hands of idiot moronic owners who don't exercise them,   who chuck them out in the yard all the time in all weathers,  in other words don't look after them in any shape or form they don't know what else to do but bark.  .

All the same I sympathise totally with those who have to put up with this idiocy from owners.  Some of the stories here makes my blood boil ...   therapy dogs shut out,   puppies shut out,  working dogs unexercised and in tiny yards,  it goes on and on .  Why on earth do people get dogs ?     I know this wouldn't be doable but I so wish potential dog owners were thoroughly checked to ensure they would treat their dogs according to their needs.  And to inflict this awfulness (barking dogs) on neighbours is completely unacceptable.  It makes you crazy ....  I know, I've been through it. and yes it made me crazy.

And  why don't councils do more?   Or the police.

Locally the cops will come out to confront an idiot with a doof doof stereo,   so why not barking dogs?

I'm unaffected right now thank goodness but as I said I feel so much for those who are and just hope something works for you, even those whistles.

Re: anyone else have a barking dog next door?

I had a working dog that lived in the town. It barked as a pup, but we trained it to the command " be quiet ". When it continued to bark after the command I would squirt it with the garden hose. Sounds cruel I know, but it only took a few days for the dog to get the idea.

The dog was a beutifull black & white Border Collie. I put a lot of time into training her for sheep work and she was the most faithful and intelligent dog I have ever owned.

Another barking dog story. ...............Some years ago we where auctioning off our heritage style cottage and having an antiques and furniture clearing sale. The neighbours had a large dog that lived in the backyard and barked constantly. We didnt think this would help our house sale or auction, but what could we do ????       The day of the sale dawned with a beautiful sunrise and a lovely sunny spring day. The sale went off without a hitch. The house sold and the antiques went to animated bidding.

That evening my wife asked if I had noticed that the neighbours dog hadnt made a sound all day. I suggested that maybe it had something to do with the early morning walk I took. I had some vetinary dog sedative tablets that I wrapped in meat and threw over the fence at his kennel.     Smiley Wink

Re: anyone else have a barking dog next door?

wow and i thought i had it bad:-(

well update the owner actually came around to all our houses today telling us all she has a puppy.  Well yes we KNOW THAT from the dam barking.  She seemed pleasant but... she has a jack russell/maltese puppy arrgghh a small mutt ive heard they are the worse breeds.  She said i have to be patient and it could take awhile.   I made it quite clear that our bedroom is right above where her dog is barking.   She said she works during the day and the dog crys when sheleaves.  I said the dog barks all day 1/2 to 1 1/2 hour straight and i cant cope getting woken up and going through our house all day.  She said its an outside dog as she doesnt want it to rip up her house inside when shes at work.  Honestly why get a dog when you work all day and shove it outside.  I told her to get the spraying collar which she didnt seem happy about.  But honestly im so angry and upset now how long does a puppy learn not to bark shes saying if its still like this a year later A YEAR you have to be kidding me im a reck as it is now!!!!

Re: anyone else have a barking dog next door?

I think in a lot of cases it's a case of "we've got a house, now we have to get a dog because that's what you're supposed to do isn't it?".

I worked 20 hours straight yesterday, got home at 5am this morning. I went to bed about 7.30am. I can sleep through cars, trucks, trains, people talking that walk past, the house getting vaccumed, the neighbours using the angle grinder on the car they are working on, pretty much anything. Yet, I was repeatedly woken by this mutt over on the corner. Thankfully I don't have to go back to work today, but if I did, there would have been bloodshed I think.

I have no issues whatsoever sleeping during the day. I go into a coma. I actually sleep better during the day than I do of a night. Yet, by 12.30pm, I'd had enough and got up. I couldn't stand it any longer. I was only planning on sleeping until about 2 anyway, which the ALARM would have woken me up, yet instead, I was repeatedly woken by the mutt on the corner.

The laws about this really need to be enforced, but most councils don't care.

Re: anyone else have a barking dog next door?

Tippy, you keep mongrel hours (pun intended)    Record the dog during the day.

Then play the tape outside their bedroom window at 3 or 4 am or so.     Every night!

Tell them it's their dog and they might as well have the same noise as you get

when trying to sleep.

Puppy school would be good.     Giving it to someone else would be better

I think you probably mean disgusting, with a g.

Drugging a dog is far better than what some people around here do. It doesn't end well for the chronic barker, let me tell you. I would never dream of doing it because that's not the sort of person I am, but the thought has crossed my mind a few times.
