do you remember a time when it was a better place to live

I remember when news agents had a stand out the front

with Papers under a rock

You took a Paper and left the money on the stand

Now days they would steal the money, the papers and the stand

and throw the rock through the window as they were running away

Re: do you remember a time when it was a better place to live

I was fortunate to live about a kilometre away from the Largs Pier Hotel

any one from Adelaide will know it mabe even other states

it was famous for showcasing many bands and it was full on all the time something new

I used to go down there when I was 15 { mum and dad thought we were at the movies }

Jimmy Barnes, Cold Chisel ,ACDC,fraternity,Daddy Cool,Spectrum and heaps more

That place rocked

I think the Osti label began with petticoats.

Another thing, did any teenager ever wear a raincoat?

I'm trying to figure out your age opmania.

The Angels had their start in Adelaide.  Used to be the Keystone Angels and performed at the Finsbury Hotel.

My mum worked there, I was only13, that was '75.

I remember the Old Lion Hotel disco when I was 17 and finished year 12.

Nothing like Chisel or the Angels. It was Knock on Wood and Born to be Alive Smiley LOL

Vic, why would you post this comment?  It was posted in reply to another vile post.  You know which.

Even someone who did not know anything about someone would realise that a one parent family, already ostracised by society,  would be anxious to meet up with others for the sake of the children, as well as having other adults in the same position to talk to.

I was not looking for myself, but much more inportantly, looking for male role models for my children.  Other one parent families were also.  Remember divorced families were extremely rare in that era.

I am curious as to why you, knowing a little about my circumstances from my posts, would post such a nasty comment.  Do you not think before you post?  Do you do it to be mates with other posters of like mind?   Wouldn't you consider yourself better than the other person?

I would appreciate an answer, if you have the intestinal fortitude.

I will be 59 in April

I went to the old lion a couple of times I think I would have been about maybe 16 or 17 then

I also went to the Finsbury I lived right across the road from there for a while

The only band I remember from there was the moonshine jug and string band

Did you ever see them . They were very cool . at that time I was 17

Re: do you remember a time when it was a better place to live

I also remember having stiff petticoats that I used to stand in the corner of my room, I think we even used corn flower at one stage to stiffen them more.

I swear if I had jumped off the harbour bridge I would have floated down like I had a parachute
