I used to do quite a bit of voluntary work before the kids came along. Now that the kids are teenagers I cant spare the time. As mentioned here before, my son needs extra care, which can be challenging. My daughter is quite "sporty" and we take her all over the state to play basketball & netball. Something I havnt mentioned before is that my wife is blind, so I need to spend time cleaning the house, doing the shopping and driving her to social events and friends etc.
My wife does the voluntary work in the family. She keeps busy playing music in bands to entertain intellectually disabled people ( they actually run dances with well known artists for these people, its a great programme ) She also works on a sub committee advising council on disability issues and works with organisations such as guide dogs and royal society for the blind trialling new technology as she is quite tech savvy.
The challenge for me is making a living while basically working part time, due to the family committments. It doesnt leave much time for voluntary work and I figure charity begins at home. Having said that I have offered to work with my thirteen year old daughter training a junior netball team next season. It will be great experience for her and something we can do together. I,m quite looking forward to it, so long as we can work well together. The daughter is very determined and head strong........

Sure do. A little orange one. But it's years old now.
Did they have other colours?
I already have too much wool - can't look for more.
Stawka, my Guardian Angel badge is orange and blue and has an inscription at the bottom.
"Knit your way to a better world."

When I heard about the group who were making nappies for the littles to be buried in I felt that this was something I could help with as my family have been blessed with on have any still borns and it was my way of been thankful for our luck.

My badge only has an orange G with white wings - 'Guardian Angel' on the top
I see they have had the programme for 17 years already.
I have so much wool, you have shamed me. I really should get
back into it. Sewing them up is the hardest bit for my eyes.
I get embarassed when I feel it is poorly sewn. But I suppose
the mums who get them are grateful for the warmth.
They have closed down all the Guardian Chemists in my area.
I have to go further afield.

I remember my Mother telling me when I made a mistake or wasn't happy with something I had made.
A man on a galloping horse won't see it and blind Freddie would be please to see it.

Apparently I do, according to my last bank statement. Really must talk to my boss about that

Yep - I take 3 elderly ladies shopping once a week, and to Bingo once a week LOL
They love it, and they are so much fun to be around, all the old stories, they are doing more for me than I could ever do for them and as I have no other family they are like grandies to my son and daughter.
They insisted on giving me $5 a week each, even though I have refused over and over again, so I told them we would treat it as a Xmas Club.
A lotto ticket once a week, any winnings into the same account, and at Xmas, I book lunch at the local hotel for Xmas Day, and the balance left is split between the 3 of them to do with as they wish.
Has worked well for the last 3 years and I love it.
