im currently using a simple landine phone, it doesnt indicate any messages.. you have to dial in to check

Re: landline phone recommendations..

As you say you are using a standard phone then  any message recording phone will work.

when you have a call it will answer as per normal, if you don't ,and the caller will leave a message on it.

On reflection the software will not monitor a standard phone but would monitor a VOIP device.

I was asking why he said he needed corded.

The OP is a little confusing in terms of voip. It's not that common to have a voip service coming through a normal phone socket without going through a router or ATA.

The OP has stated a standard handset but it is difficult to give advice on these things on the web as one does not know the depth of knowledge and ability of others.

Yes, it is. Which is why I was curious about the reason he was looking for a corded phone.

I had a dect phone that will work on some voip systems but not others.

Can't you set up your service to email alerts or sms alerts on your RSP website?

i was unaware of this option, i 'spose i can

What type of service do yoou have?

iinet naked dsl -1

Do you plug the phone into your phone socket or do you plug it into a voip device?

the phone is plugged straight into the modem

Hey Joe.....

Have you checked with your VOIP provider if there's a setting to email messages? Mine does. Records them in WAV then emails it to me, plays back on the computer via any media player.

If I do feel like answering any of the few calls I ever get, I have a program installed called Jitsi, which is VOIP software. Either use your speakers and a mic, or a headset as I do. Your computer rings like a phone, a little pop up comes up in the corner, click on it and it answers the call.

thats handy to know carl, im going to set it up to recieve email elerts now (untill i get another phone - well, i might like it enough because i check my email daily. cheers

i do have a mobile home phone handset atm, had to change the batterys for it once, which i thought made the device unreliable

corded or cable in my mind would make it reliable to make and recieve calls anytime

Do you have a BoB modem/router?  Just curious  😄

As it plugs into that any voip compatible phone should be fine.

I'm fairly sure you can log into your iinet account and set it up to send a sms or email when

there are missed calls and messages.  You can also direct calls to your mobile if and when you wish, or use an app on a mobile for voip calls.
