Just more proof we don't know what goes on behind closed doors.

i you read the article?
>>"Obviously [the man] has told me that he has no intention of reoffending in the future, and given of what I know of his character I am confident that no re-offence will occur."
Senator Hanson-Young also said the man was now back in his family home after reconciling with his wife.
In a statement released on Friday, she said she gave the reference with the support of the man's wife.<<
I have to say, I have a problem with character references given by friends in serious criminal cases. What do the friend suppose to do? Obviously they did not see that side of their friend.
There was a man living near us in small country town. His kids were bit younger than mine, so I did not know the family personally. But my immediate neighbors had kids same age and they were coming to each other places to play. When the man was arrested for brutal rape of several women, including 16 years old girl and 80+ grandmother, they were all saying "but he is such a nice man"!!!! and somebody actually said "he only goes weird when he is drinking".
I just wonder how many of you here would stand by their friend if you would find out he committed a crime?
And how many blamed DV killing, at least partially on the woman, but now are firmly against this man just because he got refference from Sarah? Never mind that the wife also wanted her to do it. I imagine she is also Sarah's friend.

Those that give references become in some ways accountable for future behaviour of the supported one relative to the issue, and the supported one becomes indebted to the referer and so subject to influence or censure in the event of future like issues that violate the confidence of the referer

we the readers dont know the 'whole story'
but we do know there can be no "yes but's" when it comes to hitting a woman and he freely admits to the crime
my point of the thread was and is
Sarah a few weeks ago was suing a man for using words against her.
and won.
and good on her.
but to now be writing references for a man who has admitted hitting his wife (and been charged) is a really bad look.
regardless of his wifes support to the idea.
you just dont do it.
