There's an old man cockatoo who's a regular visitor...

He comes in the late afternoon, has a drink from his favourite water dish, then walks down to "his" spot on the bridge and has something to eat... that his routine, ha ha.

Today he was sitting on one of the bridges out in the garden, looking dejected...

One of the younger birds was being a pain in the proverbial... ha  ha.

I told him off for being mean to the old bird and he stomped off to the other end of the pergola to be a pain towards some birds who were closer in age to him, ha ha.

If the old man bird didn't think the world of me, before, then he's added several extra planets to the list, ha ha.

The old man birds turn up and are greeted with the generic "Hello, old man"...

This is good for the first few weeks while they settle in and become more comfortable with their surroundings.

Usually after a couple of weeks it occurs to me that they don't have a formal name... unless "Old man" is a name, ha ha.

It's either that or a description of their characteristics and personality that can run to several sentences...

Sometimes "Old man" is so much easier to say... ha ha.

There's something really special about cockatoos, I've always liked them so much.

This morning, we had a whole army of black cockatoos hanging around very close to the house and flapping about.  It's usually a sign of bad weather to come, so I looked on the satellite radar site and there it was .. it's on the way!  Those birds are never wrong!

It's been a long long week already, and it's only Tuesday ..  ... but at least, it's not 'work', it's all domestic stuff and I can take my time and enjoy the results.

It's reached 30 degrees in the middle of the afternoon...

There's nothing else to do but sprawl in the possum house doorway and try to ignore the cockatoos grunting at me, ha ha.

This is a "I'm going to make it to see if it works" toy, ha ha.

Well, it works...

You hold the bottom stick steady, at the left hand end, and you slide the top stick from side to side...

The cockatoos take turns at pecking...

For visual effect this works even better if you sit the toy on top of a bag of bird seed, ha ha.

One day I might get round to making one that doesn't look like I made it to see if it would work, ha ha.
