the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

This is a thread with no particular

Topic so no one can be off topic ๐Ÿ™‚

So if anyone out there has something

To say about anything you like now

Is your chance

Keep it clean

And be nice

See how long that lasts

Can we keep politics and religion out

Of the conversation

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Two old man cockatoos are sitting in one of the big trees out the front, contemplating their options as night begins to fall...

Along comes parent galah...

Closely followed by baby galah, rasping and wheezing and cackling, as baby galahs do...

On one side of the tree parent galah sits patiently ignoring baby galah, ha ha...

Obviously this is a quick break, rather than an opportunity for feeding, but if you're a baby galah every moment is an opportunity for feeding, or at least an opportunity to remind everybody within earshot that it's an opportunity for feeding... ha ha.

On the other side of the tree, silhouetted against the darkening sky, I could see the two old man birds edging along a branch,  making their way away from the noisy little galah...

"We should move quickly, but not too quickly... we don't want it to notice us or it'll come over here and make that awful noise at us", ha ha.

The trouble with being nice to girls...

The bulk of the flock, here, are boys, so it's always nice when a girl joins them...

I try to make a little extra effort with the girls, give them a little bit more food... make them feel welcome....

They're usually very shy and hang around on the edges of the group, but there's always ways of slipping them an extra treat or two, ha ha.

One particular girl decided that seeing as she was special, she'd take advantage of that...

She ended up sitting on my foot, looking up at me lovingly... "Are you sure you don't have any more treats...?", ha ha.

Oh boy, the trouble with being nice to girls, ha ha.

I suppose it could be worse... rather than using sitting on my foot as an attention getting device, I could be sitting on the bench and she could be standing on the armrest, using one foot to knead my sleeve...

She could, but there's already a boy cockatoo who has a monopoly on that, ha ha...

"I can't understand why you insist on finishing your cuppa when you could be giving me treats...".

"I like this shirt, the material's easy to get a grip on... that way as you walk past I can jump onto your back and get a free ride to the other end of the pergola... it's better than flying...", ha ha.

Just another day... ha ha.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Ecar, I've had a very sad sounding bird in my neighbourhood for a couple of weeks.

I say sad sounding because it doesn't get any answering call,  and then it gets insistent.

It's taken me a couple of weeks to find out what the heck it is, cos I can't see it.

I recorded it and now I've found it!   Ta Da

It's an Eastern Koel and it shouldn't be this far soiuth.

Most Koels migrate from Australia to New Guinea and probably eastern Indonesia and even further north, but some remain in northern Australia. During breeding season, they are found in northern and eastern Australia, south to about Nowra, New South Wales, although occasional birds are encountered further south.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Thanks, Stawks... What an interesting bird....  I'll just play the video...

Bird calls once, bird calls a second time, bird calls a third time and I start chuckling... ha ha

There's one, and maybe two, round here....

I thought it was the satin bower bird having fun at my expense, as she loves to do... ha ha.

But no, it's not her...

It's a completely different bird...

Now I think I shall have to get excited about it....

I can feel myself getting all koel fired up, ha ha.

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Ecar, the link I put up has the bird call on it, and also the female's call.

The sound bar is on the right hand side just over halfway down the page.

I may have missed the female's call cos it could be mistaken for a Rainbow Lorikeet,

and  have flocks of them visit here.

But all in all, it's a Cuckoo and has pinched another's nest. booting out what was there  smiley kick.gif

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

I'm not exactly impressed by the cuckoo aspect, I'm afraid they'll have to go down in my estimation for that... ha ha.

And then, further still...

About half past eight, as it was turning dark, the female flew over the house uttering her distinctive call...

Something that made me wonder if the emergency services were testing a new siren... one that had consumed one too many energy drinks... ha ha.

Shrill, piercing, and then piercing, only further... ha ha.

At least now I'll know what it is that's making that incredibly awful noise, in future... ha ha.

Thanks to your detective work I'll be able to say "It's a koel", rather than "What in the blue blazes is that?", ha ha.
