the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

This is a thread with no particular

Topic so no one can be off topic ๐Ÿ™‚

So if anyone out there has something

To say about anything you like now

Is your chance

Keep it clean

And be nice

See how long that lasts

Can we keep politics and religion out

Of the conversation

Hi Ecar. No need to struggle with dictionaries these days. If you are not aware of it, Google Translate will translate chunks of foreign language text for you in a few seconds. It's surprisingly accurate, although your proverb only gets a literal translation:

translate.google.as - metier rentre

Baybizz, you're a gem. ๐Ÿ™‚

Minus 3 this morning, and the weather man says minus 2 overnight.

It's looking like the birdbath'll be frozen over again, come the morning.

There's one thing worse than facing a freezing morning, and that's facing the sparrows - "The bath's broken!! You're in charge of fixing these things... Get out there and fix it!"... ha ha ...

I know it'll be a cold one - instead of the usual two, there were six galahs in, along with the usual horde of cockatoos, this evening...

And along for the ride were two very noisy "Feed me! Feed Me!! Why is nobody Feeding Me!!?" baby cockatoos as well...

Talk about rush hour... I had to break out the emergency-spare-reserve container of birdseed to keep up with the demand, ha ha....

Stay warm, people...

It's only as things begin to "return to normal" that I've realised how much I enjoyed the solitude...

I had to wait for someone to move before I got a parking spot at the mall, today...

That would've been unthinkable there, even a week ago, when the worst I faced was dodging tumbleweeds, ha ha...

But now, there's crowds...

"Go to the mall, it'll be fun..."...

carousel-day.webp

Yeah... No....

People wandering, aimlessly, trying to fill the otherwise bleak hours of their lives ....

"Go to the mall, it'll be..."...

` burning carousel.PNG

Something bordering on a living vision of Hell...

Okay, I'lll be the first to admit that I'm not a great fan of crowds, and especially not of crowds that consist of people who are desperately trying to avoid spending yet another day staring at the same four walls...

I miss the solitude...

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

It got to the better part of minus 5, this morning.

Predictably enough, the bird baths had frozen over...

The best way to deal with that is to slip a pocket knife blade down the side of the birdbath, under the ice, and try to push the sheet out in one piece....

The only downside being that when the sheet slips off the edge of the birdbath, and hits the ground, it shatters and sounds like window glass breaking...

What must the neighbours think? ha ha...

Especially if I clear one birdbath after the other...ha ha...

The fun never ends... ha ha ....

Keep smiling, stay warm, stay well, and any other good wishes that spring to mind, in a similar vein....

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Carving faces isn't as easy as it might sound...

Faces have many features - noses, mouths, eyes, ears, eyebrows, beards, chins, smiles and frowns... all of which have their own little tricks and traps when it comes to shaping them, as I am discovering... ha ha...

And of course, it seems to be the rule that no two people use the same technique...

I think I've set myself a hard task... ha ha...

It's all good fun, but it's turning into a slower process than I first thought it would be....

All the "How to" videos, books and still images in the world don't necessarily take into account that I'm just beginning, and some of the tricks and techniques that more seasoned carvers take for granted are things that I've still yet to learn....

As with all new enterprises, the first few "rough drafts" are just that - rough as guts, ha ha ...

It's proving to be an amusing pastime, and one of these days I hope to look at a part finished piece of work and not think "Oh, yes... I see where where I went wrong, with that... better start again..."... ha ha...

Re: the nothing ,anything ,everything thread

Thinking about it, maybe making a start on something a little simpler than a human face might be a good idea.

Perhaps a  parrot head, reminiscent of the handle from Mary Poppins' umbrella...

This one's made from polymer clay (Polly clay? I hear you ask...), ha ha...

And given that it's a relatively simple shape, it shouldn't prove too arduous an undertaking, I hope...

polymer clay or Polly clay....jpg

I could put a crest on it, make the handle a bit more like a handle, and make it look like a cockatoo...

You know, I could be onto something, there...

It's an idea... another thing to put in the sketch book, ha ha...
