so the saying goes
1. my car key stopped working
2. my TV stopped working
3. my printer stopped working
all in a 2 week window

if you follow my posts and take the time to read a lot of what i talk about in replies
you will know i think about the less fortunate a lot
i have stood up for the battlers a lot
i have pointed out how when a person is on the lowest rung of the ladder life is not a bowl of cherries
the pensions are not enough to have a decent life on unless you can add to them (by legal means of course)
even those with jobs at the bottom of the working ladder are struggling
this thread is not a 'oh look at me, im poor'
it just shows how in 2 weeks i was in a situation of requiring 3 expensive items to be replaced
on top of the usual bills 'electricity, water, phone, car rego, rates' that are all here right now
yes, i'm lucky i can just buy replacements, but it will take months to rebuild my small bank balance back to where it was.
i will try to sell some of my collections' and cut back on 'nice stuff' when i shop
i'm ok as i have my life set up so i can cover these moments
Why not partially pay these each f/night? It saves a big bill each month or quarter

David, you took my post the wrong way. I wasn't having a go at you.
I was more reflecting on how fortunate under the circumstances you
spoke of, to be in a position to replace the items we live with as must
haves. My living room ceiling fan died yesterday we have AC but I am
in the process of getting a new one just because I can. My post was
thinking about less fortunate people who can't replace the necessary
items such as a refrigerator or a single mum with children and her
washing machine breaks down.

Thanks for the Mother Theresa acknowledgement.
Much better than a biff chaser.

new tv came today
had a little installing issue (required a password but i couldnt figure out what to do. found a youtube video of a guy setting up the same tv, showed how to set the password)
after that it was easy peasy

Wow David, what a great looking screen, and well done getting it all set up. I really like YouTube for all sorts of tutorials; certainly has been a wonderful reference source.

i have bought a few items from KOGAN and had mostly good results
i feel they let themselves down in the 'instruction of use' area
the tv came with 1 tiny booklet with hardly any instructions for setting up
no problem there in 2021
if they were to supply a video turorial on each model online
what they do supply is 2 downloads of booklets
one a 'quick guide'
the second a 'users manual'
i downloaded and printed out both while waiting for delivery
read them thoughorly
felt ready to takle the job
however reading and watching is 2 different things
plugged it in and switched it on as per instructions
i didnt get the 'welcome' screen mentioned in the book
but i soldiered on
did get into the 'set up' bit
went through a series of screens
until i hot this screen wanting a 'password'
there was a keyboard and you could move a pointer about on the screen using the remote
but no matter what i did it wouldnt create a 'password'
so i went online and looked up KOGANs website
they dont have a help call line
just an email your problem
so i sent a message re the problem
and started waiting
this could be days, who knows
so while im waiting and looking at the password screen
i think, i'll try youtube, maybe someone else has done this and filmed it
lucky for me yes they had
once you see how to create the password, no problems
the rest of the set-up went smoothly

my new printer came today
how do they make and sell a printer for under $40?
yes its RED, the only colour available when i ordered
of course red ones go faster?
on 04-02-2021 12:07 PM
David - probably because they make more $$$ on the ink.
It has a black cartridge & a colour cartridge.
Some colours are used more than others - so the single cartridge runs out more quickly.
Not so bad if you only print B&W.

Very nice printer David.
When my printer went to printer heaven, I bought one from Orificeworks for $40.
I had an ink cartridge for the old printer that wasn't compatible with the new one.
I sold the unopened ink cartridge for $35 - that means my printer was only $5 - bargain.
Do you have any unopened ink cartridges that aren't compatible with the new printer?
If so, get listing.

i have some non original ink tanks
i had been using non originals for years without trouble
ive had a look and replacement inks for this new printer are indeed expensive, just under the cost of the printer
so i will use this printer for a while and look for a better printer, one that has the 4 or 5 seperate ink tanks like my old one
my old one was a canon ip7260
it was a very good printer and it could print on cd/dvd's
very handy
so far i can find hardly any similar printers
seems everything is 'do everything' ie print/copy/scan
but not cd/dvd printing
i prefer just a printer, no extras
at $140 the old model fitted the bill
