well aren't we just a little ray of sunshine then?
lid and seat should be put down when one is finished - its the polite thing to do.

I don't understand the whole debate about the toilet seat having to be left up or down.
It's a first world problem.
If I need to use the loo and the seat has been left up, I put it down.
I hubs finds it down, he puts it up.
The lid should be put down for flushing.
Simple.

I have never heard a man whinge about putting the toilet seat up to pre but nearly every woman whinges about putting it back down. Why is that , even if the seat had a mass of 1000kg it would be far easier ti put it down than up. As fir the lid if you don't shut it when you flush you are just contaminating your whole house with fecal matter. Every time you flush some water particles are atomized and these will contain fecal matter.
All over the toothbrushes, which are sometimes quite close.

this is the main reason i prefer a loo separate to the bathroom.

I never put the toilet seat lid/cover down. I don't think my Mum did either.
