what the?

what the hecks going on with blood tests?

so i have type 2 diabetes and get sent to have blood tests then a week later have a 'review' with a nurse and my doctor.

no problem there

but recently these tests, well not the acctual test, but the time i am forced to sit in a waiting area is just rediculous

my test takes about 5 minutes from the time im called to where im out the door heading home

last time i was waiting about an hour and a half, the longest id ever waited

today i waited an hour and a half and only 3 people were actually tested and left!

when i arrieved i took a number, 15

the first person called after i arrived was 7

they had reached 10 when i got angry and left!

an hour and a half to take blood from 3 people!

you have to be kidding!

btw, remember i was fasting, no food since last night!

and diabetic!!

Re: what the?

David, I wonder if they are short staffed?

I understand there are a lot of medical staff who have

put their hand up to go and help in Vic. Could you go

back tomorrow? Try and get there prior to their opening

time and be first in.

Re: what the?

Do you not have a glucometer and check it yourself?

Re: what the?

I recently had some blood tests and commented to the lady that I couldn't get through on the phone beforehand. She said they are very busy because many people are getting Covid related blood tests. I'm not exactly sure what she meant, and I didn't pry. She added that they have to be extra careful, which takes up more time.

Re: what the?

It may be these Pathologists are a bit run off their feet - due to the current circumstances.

Re: what the?

I also had type 2.  Did you know that it's reversible if you lose enough weight?  I lost 50 lbs by going low carb.  No more medicine or blood tests for me!  Smiley Happy

David, are the tests just for blood sugar?

Are they more often than every 3 months?   You only need to be tested for sugar every 3 months - the HbA1c test.

More than once every three months for blood tests is over the top,  IMO

As mentioned do you have a glucometer to test every day?  If not, you can get one free.

You need to be registered, by your doctor, with the NDSS

Re: what the?

i have read the comments

my gripe is just with the time the taking of the bloods takes

i dont get an apointment, its turn up and take a number then wait to be called

ive been having these tests for many years

its simple, get called in from the waiting area, sit down, sign the form you brought with you

they take the samples

for me takes about 5 minutes

i realise some take longer

but until the last 12 months it was maybe an hour on a bad day

nothings changed, its one woman (not the same one, todays was new to me) taking the samples

i get it done at our local hospital

i dont wait for results, they send them to my GP

i do my sugars twice a day, morning and dinner and write the results in my book

i take the book to my review.

i just cant see why they keep people waiting so long

particularly if its fasting

to me if your not fasting you should be told to come later in the day if its such a slow process

but as i said, until say 12 months ago it was ok

maybe this lady is just a slow as blood taker

Re: what the?

Having read - it seems Pathologists are doing Covid testing - maybe there were numerous - parked waiting - not just those in the waiting room.
