Just stay indoors Val & get everyone else to do the running around. I wonder how Nic is doing in this heat?Haven't seen her post for a couple of days, so I hope she's OK too

Hubby, is doing everything, I have had so many asthma attacks last yr and over Xmas, I dont want any more, I have my puffers, & I use them.

Nic, will have to be careful as well, as she suffers from respiratory problems as well.

Victorian Premier Denis Napthine has just told ABC radio that some households across the state may have their power cut off in the next two hours to cope with the huge national electricity supply and demand during the heatwave.

Its advised that you contact your power supply company to ensure it is due to planned outage if your household is affected.

That's after the power goes out!

Now, how does Mr Napthine expect us to do that with no power for computer or phone?

Bet Toorak/Sth Yarra don't get cut off

Had similar thoughts in my head.

In SA we get these "sharing" times, always starts in one area, then progresses around different areas until the need subsides. However, the same area is always first, out here in Feralsville, and they usually forget when it's the end of our turn. Supposedly half an hour at a time, then switch to the next area. Last time it happened here, over 3 hours until I had power back, and the likes of Burnside, Belair etc, never seem to reach their turn Smiley Frustrated

That makes a lot more sense, Carl, than having it just suddenly disappear. We lost the power here yesterday evening but ir was only for about 5 seconds.

Iza I love the hot weather...those 45 degree days where you can feel your eyeballs burning when you step outside lol. Nobody ever listens to my fabulous hot weather survival tips, possibly because they're worried about looking like the town nutter...but I don't care about such things ...

Here are my best tips!

Walk through the shower with your clothes on whenever you dry out

Wet a sarong and drape it over your head...it's like a personal air conditioner. I own sarongs specifically for this purpose 😄

Carry a squirt bottle and use it

Sleep with a wet washer,...or even wet sheets if it's really hot. The top sheet, not the bottom...and use water lol

Play with the birds under the sprinkler

Water the garden but mostly water yourself.

Throw ice cubes, water, a sprig of mint and a squirt of lemon into the blender

Keep your hair wet

On those really hot days, a small amount of water makes for a whole lot of cold...I know your water is limited there.

If you follow my loony tips, you'll enjoy the hot weather and look forward to it. Maybe lol

Now Karen I have agreed with way too many of your comments recently... stop it.... Cat Frustrated

Re: will someone please turn down the heat

I'm really struggling to keep my cats cool. It's 36 C in the house despite closing all the blinds and doors. I bought a bag of ice at 8am this morning to place in front of the fan and I'm having constant showers and wetting my top.

My cats have been refusing to drink water so by this afternoon I've had to invent some ingenious ways of getting fluid into them. My deaf kitty likes to drink from my coffee cups so I've place a coffee cup of water near him. He took a few sips. With my Birman I had to dribble water into her mouth and Thai my Persian .... it was weird. I dipped my fingers in a bowl of water and offered them to him and he started biting them. So I have a few bitten fingers but at least I managed to get some water into him even if it was a few drops. I've tried giving them ice cubes to play with ... I've been wiping them down with a wet cloth. My next plan is to dip their paws in water. They might try to rip my face off ... but they need to cool down lol.

I have to go to work tomorrow and Friday 😞   I hope they'll cope.

Re: will someone please turn down the heat

Squirt them with the hose if they're not clever enough to look after themselves?

Or you could cool the bathroom tiles with water...my feral cats used to congregate in there. They loved the tub, too. And the sink ;\

😄 @ catmad and again 😄

Re: will someone please turn down the heat

My mum tells me that she use to hang a sheet in front of the open window and the bottom she let hang in a tub of water. as the breeze blew though it cooled the house. I have tried it and is works when the humidity is low.

Cat_mioux, open the bathroom door and wet some towels down and lay them on the tiles. The cat  can chill out there if they feel like it.. one of mine loves to do that. Don't worry too much if they have not been drinking much water. Just have it available and they will look after themselves.
