I bought a Lenovo laptop on ebay 2 months ago, shipped from US to Australia, that is now not working properly. Lenovo confirmed that the issue would be covered under the US warranty, but that there is no international warranty, and so will not provide any assistance. Any recommendations?

Australian consumer law doesnt extend to purchases made from overseas business's. In this case you admit it was lenovo US. Case closed

My understanding is that, irrespective of the warranty, the purchase is covered under Australia Consumer Protection law. I understand that the consumer protection would cover the laptop issue, and also, the mixup about the warranty.
No it does not
That one has been done to death, yes, usually it is from people who buy dodgy items from dodgy seller in China but the same applies here
Buying something from overseas that was listed on eBay.com.au does not bring it under Australia consumer law
And no 'mix up' with the warranty when there never was one for Australia, that was only what you thought but is not how it is

Just to update everyone on where we've got to:
Lenovo has confirmed the issue is covered under Australia Consumer Law and provided a Return Credit Note that can be exchanged with the seller for a refund.
I have contacted ebay and the ‘ebay seller’ and they have refused to help.
The seller has said: I sympathize for you, I just don’t want to be liable for anything. And to be honest, sounds like a good bit of work to do all that and Im not getting anything for it

Lenovo is wrong, Australian Consumer Law does not apply unless you buy from an Australian business.
The warranty in the US is a manufacturers warranty. Get the manufacturer in US, Lenovo, to accept direct return to them under warranty.
I do not blame your seller for not wanting to get stuck in the middle of this.

Just to add, it is not up to lenovo to interfere with the ebay transaction and return/refund policies.
Nor is it the sellers responsibility to act as a go between for you & lenovo.
The seller you have named, against board policies, does not appear to be a computer retailer for lenovo, or any other PC brand.

This is factual for this situation as it is outside of Australian consumer law.
But under normal circumstances it is up to the retailer to be the go between for the buyer and manufacturer.

That assumes the seller is an authorised retailer for lenovo, which I highly doubt as they are mainly a seller of sporting attire.
They do not have any IT gear currently listed, and the item in question was the only tech product in the last 3000 sales.
