Abusive buyer misuse of returns - unbelievable distress as a seller

Recently I asked ebay to help me because a buyer chopped the back off a platinum diamond ruby and sapphire pin to wear as a pendant - the wrote in messages they did this

Then...next day they started a return stating it was broken or damaged

i had documentation from an independant appraiser it was in good condition from an independent party I was never asked to provide this document..

I accepted the return

I reached out to ebay because this item was damaged...and changed....I don't know how to cover these losses as a seller there is no shop on the planet that allows buyers to alter items then forces sellers to accept back an item that may never be sold again and/or is damaged

By reaching out and asking for help I have now been told I will not get my final value fee credit back...I am being charged for asking for help

I NEVER ESCALATED THIS TO A CLAIM I JUST ASKED FOR HELP UNDER DURESS

I tried to discuss with the high value team but feel I have no rights

I feel frightened to start this conversation on ebay  and feel I will be persecuted further for it but I am terribly distressed at the treatment I have had

perhaps you guys don't understand the risk and cost with high value items

I cover that as a business owner

I cover the cost of ensuring all items are tested and what they are

there are a lot of costs

I have gone without holidays to build my business and am not on trial here this choice to persecute me is truly toxic from members in this conversation

I WAS telling you about this to protect you....because this happened...it could happen to you...and it will happen in some form or other to you the longer you sell for

the policies got stricter the sellers have less rights to provide evidence and are forced now to accept returns

I thought perhaps other members would want to know that

because other workplaces have unions...and when those workers are treated badly the union steps in for their rights

there is no ebay sellers union there should be one

and I thought hey maybe someone will listen and we can stand together and say hey this is not OK....

and I hope a single person or two read this and get that

that was my point

I knew when I said I was upset it is human nature to blame the victim for some people and attack the victim...but I wanted to state the facts about how harmful and toxic and damaging and the financial loss and my experience here openly because by saying that it can save someone else and be salient and have meaning

valuation 101

buy a coke at the supermarket $1

at a vending machine same coke 0.70 cents

at a cafe $3

at an expensive restaurant $14

SAME COKE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE? DIFFERENT PRICE

VALUATION BASICS GUYS

you pay different prices for coke all the time but get a different experience and a different product

items do not have set values they have values that vary on how and where they are sold

in a free market a vendor can name their price

BY THE WAY YOU CANNOT DO THAT ON EBAY FOR RRP PRODUCTS THEY SET YOUR PRICE.....

that is not a free market

anyway..to the point in a free market you can set and ask and sell for whatever price you want as long as you are selling what you said you were selling in the condition you said it was in

that is the fact

Now on ebay in my store not a single person has paid a listed value ever...and I am being persecuted for?

I am being persecuted because people are jealous and don't understand if you build your own business you go without clothing..without holidays ...without basics for many many years to get ahead

you go to an appraiser you specify the purpose and function of any appraisal

was it for quick sale? value a is the result for item x

was it for auction at christies ? value b is the result for same item x

was it for auction at local nondescript auction house? value c is the result for same item x

was it for retail replacement at joe blogs in the USA? value d is the result for same item x

was it for retail replacement at Claudines in the UK? value e is the result for same item x

was it for estate purposes and probate? value f is the result for the same item x

was it for sale on rubylane for retail? value g is the result for same item x

was it for same on ebay or auctioned or wholesaled on ebay? value h is the result for same item x

there are specific valuations for specific purposes for specific marketplaces for specific countries for specific sorts of sale and manner of sale and speed of sale

OH...YOU DIDN'T KNOW THAT IT APPLIES TO YOUR LIFE ALL THE TIME WHEN YOU BUY A COKE

more so it applies to wine..it applies to jewelry..it applies to a hell of a lot of stuff

be informed when you criticise

values

valuation

it's complex and market specific

it's complex and purpose specific

it's complex and specific to a vendor specific to a marketplace specific to a manner of sale specific to country and more specific again

I am not interested in teaching gemology to you nor valuation of jewelry nor appraising nor antiques

I am not interested in being persecuted by other members when I made this post to make this community safer and ask other sellers and inform them about severe changes to their rights

I AM INTERESTED IN EBAY AND HOW IT HAS ERODED AND DOESN'T FEEL SAFE

THEN...I HAD THE EXPERIENCE HERE...AND FELT LESS SAFE NOT JUST BULLIED BY EBAY BUT THE EBAY COMMUNITY..

no come on ?

really?

aren't people better than that says the idealist who wants an old fashioned ebay with fair rules and fair policies for sellers

I want ebay to treat sellers fairly

THAT IS WHAT THIS CONVERSATION WAS ABOUT

I didn't open my door and ask anyone jealous or misinformed to slap me in the face for some weird reason they feel compelled to out of jealousy or just because they can and they had a bad day or are sadistic

I BELIEVED HERE PEOPLE WOULD WANT TO KNOW THAT THE TRANSACTIONS HERE AS A SELLER PLACE YOU AT RISK BECAUSE OF NEW POLICIES ON THIS SITE YOU HAVE LESS RIGHTS THAN YOU DID IN 2013...;ESS THAN YOU HAD LAST YEAR TOO...AND LESS ALL THE TIME....

I thought someone might want to know

and someone else might care because ebay was a great site....at a time

Oh goodnessโ€ฆ.. ๐Ÿ˜‘

Calm down, before you give yourself a stroke!!

I was actually on your sideโ€ฆ.. until seller offered me $24,000 DISCOUNT!

Iโ€™m sorry, but itโ€™s blatant highway robbery!

I thought something was amiss when I saw how much you had on your Australian opal jewelsโ€ฆ.. but anyway, it is what it is.

HAVE YOU SUBMITTED AN APPEAL WITH EBAY YET?????
Iโ€™m genuinely interested in your answer, but I donโ€™t need another long winded lecture from you.

You wonโ€™t change eBayโ€™s policies.  ๐Ÿ˜‰

There is actually more protection for sellers now than there has ever been,  no one here is going to complete the appeal for you.   You have been given all the relevant information, but unfortunately you do not want to

accept it, and you seem to think the responders here are fools, bad mistake.  So many contradictions in your numerous posts.

Ah well,  in all likelyhood, you will lose the item, the proceeds and ebays fees.  welcome to the real world.

SORRY - BUT IN MY WORLD - AN ' APPRAISAL ' OR VALUATION - IS JUST THAT - THE TRUE CURRENT VALUE OF THE ITEM - BY A QUALIFIED PROFESSIONAL - NO MATTER MY OR ANYONE'S ' PURPOSE '.

We all are capable of ' shouting '. lol
