Any experience of Nigerian Scammers targeting sellers?

Hi all,

I can understand these people trying to target Buyers, but why target sellers? You would have to be out of your mind to send any item out without money up front... Well these people have effectively blocked me from carrying out any further legitimate sales for the month and Ebay don't seem too concerned...

I have just been trying to sell an item on Ebay and not just once, but twice I have been blocked from making a legitimate sale. It appears the same person (I can only assume that, because whoever he is, was using the exact same expression of words on both Ebay sent sale responses) with two different user names, has after I re-listed the item a second time, said he was again going to buy the item.

A dispute was opened.

Because I didn't expect the same User Name to be utilised a second time around (I was correct there) it seemed a bit pointless to block the initial offender (as Ebay customer suggested) .  Sure enough just to piss me off I believe the same person bid again.

It has effectively stopped me from any more transactions for the month, due to supposedly reaching my Monthly Limit.

What really gets my back is that Ebay, has already billed me for not one, but two non existent sales!!!

Yeh... I may get a refund but I believe it is a "bit rich", to do that even after I pointed out the obvious discrepancies. Especially when they too have access to nearly all communications sent to me by this person.

Put your blocks in place so they can't buy from you.

Particularly Members with 0 feedback and not phone verified. That weeds out the quickly set up accounts to scam.

Also put anyone you have problems with on your BBL. (Blocked Bidders List)

Nigerian scammers target low FB sellers who sell high value items.  There is nothing eBay can do before the ID (usually hijacked) is reported.  You can protect yourself by listing as posting to Australia only, and selecting the rest of the world as NOT POSTING TO.  Click on the drop down menu and put a tick to all the other parts of the world.  That way anybody bidding from o/s will be blocked from bidding from you when you put all the blocks in place as suggested above.  If you report the ID as hijacked, you should be able to re-list without waiting for the dispute to go through.

And if you go through with a Non Paying Buyer dispute, you will be refunded the fees you have been charged... simply click on the link to right of the transaction details, and "resolve a problem" or "Open an Unpaid Item Dispute" should be there.
