I don't have an ABN (yet) but I already post at least 5 parcels a week (not including large letters) so qualify in that regard. I have a few questions though.

  1. Do I have to print my own postage labels? I need to go to the Australia Post Office anyway. I don't need nor want them to come to my house or office (assuming I'm even there, which I'm not).
  2. How and where do I get the discount?
  3. How does Australia Post track how many parcels I send a week?
  4. Does the Australia Post "MyPost" card have anything do with anything (for example, tracking how many parcels I send each time)?

If you can answer my questions or if you have any useful information I would appreciate it.

Even with all that, I still missed one Q.... Smiley LOL

There is no discount for domestic signature on delivery (SOD). That's always $2.95

I'm noticing a trend... the discounts don't apply to the shipping services I often use (such as local/international large letters, economy air, SOD) but do apply on the things I don't use (standard air mail, extra cover).

Maybe it's all part of their plan?

Sorry for the flurry of posts but there's a lot of topics to cover and posts to reply to.

Probably one last question to those who already have access to AusPost discounts: do you still print labels from the "eBay Sold" page on MyeBay? Why or why not?

Thanks for the details, it is appreciated.

Come to think of it, why is a 500 gram satchel (that has size limitations) $8.15 when you can package the item yourself with no size limits for $7.95?

Regarding label printing at the Post Office, that does sound potentially troublesome (putting online AusPost labels on a USB stick etc). I thought it was as simple as getting the staff to print the usual small rectangle labels and just scan then and there.

Now I come across probably my biggest downfall: the fact that the 10% discount doesn't apply to International Economy Parcels. 99% of my air mail parcels are economy so this is a big disappointment. 5 parcels a week (10% discount) I can do but not 10 parcels a week (12.5% discount). And here I was hoping for much needed discounts on my expensive economy parcels to places like the UK and Brazil and France and other expensive countries to post to ($22-$25+ per 500 gram parcel). Again, big disappointment.

Again, thanks for the info in your posts.

The red above is the biggest issue with the new system and it's the reason I stopped using it.

I started out with Click&Send and kept going through the different iterations until just recently.

The new arrangement that instituted a 6 week cycle for discount structure qualification is a definite trap.

For about 4 years I was always above the old 250 parcel threshold (I still am) and everything went along nicely.

Just after the new system was introduced, for 3 Mondays in the period, the service was unavailable or too dysfunctional to use so in order to keep my parcels flowing I used eBay labels.

As a result I lost my discount.

When I pointed this out to AP CS the message was "tough luck".

Now I just satisfy myself with using the eBay labels exclusively as I don't want to be fiddling with postage price variations every 6 weeks or so.

The upshot for AP is that the labels I am buying from eBay are obtained from AP at the maximum concessional discount (though I pay at the 10% level) so AP are doing themselves out of dough.

The 6 week cycle is a trap for smaller sellers (and big ones too if they are near a cutoff point for volume).

You'll set your pricing according to your postage cost inputs and the last thing you need is for that to change every 6 weeks as your volume goes up and down.

For the larger volume sellers who post internationally; you would be badly affected by even a temporary slowdown as certain services would become unavailable as well as others dearer so profit margins would take periodic hits.

That more depends on who you allocate the discount to - yourself, or your buyers. I allocate it to myself, and use it to cover FVF, or delivery features if I want to add them.

Postage price fluctuations would be annoying for me, and confusing for my buyers, so I wouldn't go down that route (I'll raise them when the basic rates increase, of course). I know this would vary greatly between sellers, but the majority of my parcels (both local and overseas) are under 500g, and the difference between the min and max discounts on a 500g parcel in own packaging is only 60c.

So, on ebay (domestic postage only) I quote for normal postage prices on my listings that use parcel rates, and allow the 10% discount to absorb the FVF on postage. If / when I get a larger discount, then I might make an extra 30-odd cents on the sale, that covers a bit more of the packaging costs, or the odd PayPal flagfall I don't get back when i cancel a transaction, or whatever.

For international postage options, I still quote normal costs, and the $1+ difference again covers packaging and gives me more room to add delivery features on higher value orders without having to build it into the per additional item cost.

There was one day that I wasn't able to use the system last year, and on that day I used eBay labels for a couple of things, then paid over the counter for a bunch of others, still getting the discount as I had the QR code they could scan. International packages were processed the next day (just another reason for me to keep my 2 day handling time).

I know this won't be applicable or appealing to everyone - I was lucky for one thing, to have had the cash to pay for postage over the counter when the system was down, I don't always have that much cash on me since I usually use PayPal to pay online. It also assumes a guarantee of being consistently on at least a 10% discount, because otherwise (with the way I do it) you'd for sure either have to increase P&H, or take a loss on it when you're not getting the cheaper rates.

If your customers like express (as mine often do) Send and Save is a much cheaper option (if not considered a better one), because you pay full rates on eBay, and they only do assessed, not flat rate. ebay also charges the full $1.50 per $100 of extra cover, so it really does depend on individual circumstances and preferences. As mentioned before, though, I will always use eBay for BX boxes - $7.55 for a 1kg BX1 via eBay, and about $12 via Send & Save, after a discount.

No you dont use the ebay sold page.    You link ebay to your  MyPost Business Account.   Also Links your paypal or other payment

method.  Then you import ebay orders to your post account  (edit and save post details).   Then pay via Paypal or method of your

choice.  Once payment is complete you will be prompted to Print  Labels.  You can print  up to 4 domestic labels per A4 Page

Or international  Labels take 2 A4 Pages    Note.  Because the accounts are linked, when postage is completed, your ebay sold

page is updated with tracking numbers and items marked as posted.

Hi again,  are you sure you are using International Economy Air.   There is no tracking available on the economy  air Service.

International Standard Post  does include tracking .  And the Discount postage applies.

Yes, I know there is no tracking on international economy, and that only international standard has tracking. I'm just saying that I am disappointed that economy has no 10% discount.

I use non-trackable economy air because it's cheaper to wear the costs of the occasional lost parcel than to pay the $10 extra for each and every international parcel. Of course for high value items, I will use tracking + signature on delivery.

Bx1 boxes went up to par with a 1kg satchels recently, so it would definitely pay to check on those.

The pitfalls of dragging up old threads. Not for you - but for those like you who don't read dates and then think the information herein is current or relevant.
