Buyer is able to leave neg feedback after cancelling sale!???

hi,

A buyer asked me in November last year to cancel the sale after winning an auction. I cancelled the sale.

then in Jan this year left me negative feedback saying item not received??!!

Ebay refused to remove it as they said it was an opinion?!  based on what ?? not receiving an item you didnt pay for ?? can anyone HAVE an opinion about that ?

How is this fair or ethical ?

I realise the changes to the feedback system over the last few years has had a lot of comments re right & wrong but surely this takes the cake!

Call ebay back and tell them to read the message from that buyer requesting to cancel the sale.

They should remove it as the buyer requested it.

If they don't then call again till you get someone that will.

Call them do not email them.

I agree with sparklz.

Ring up uBay and point out buyer was the one wanted to cancel before payment was made. They should be check it with eBay message if they keep messages more than 3 months.

If the first phone call wasn't successful ring up again. Outcomes depend on who answer the phone call.

I agree... with the boards being monitored!

God only knows why they bother, none of it is nothing we haven't seen or heard before, like daily in the media.

But all joke asside, I still think that it's Ebay's job to remove the negs in cases where there was no sale as they are the ones that set up the system to allow it.

As, whichever way one looks at this particular (OP), there is no way how the buyer can explain asking for cancellation and then leaving a neg to the seller.

And so many , 100000000's of other sellers have to battle the same problem daily, when all they were doing was trying to help and cancell the sale. And when they don't agree to listen to the carp the buyers dish out and don't cancell the sale... they still cop a neg!

Go figure.

Anyhow, it was great talking to you - and beast of luck!

really it's their job to remove the negs given for no sale, no matter who did the cancelling or not paying or whatever.

In this case, eBay should definitely remove the NEG, and I would persist until it is done.

However, to say that NEG should be always removed/not be able to be issued when transaction is cancelled, does not matter why the transaction was cancelled, is just NOT on.  There are plenty of situation when the bidder has a full right to be unhappy when transaction is cancelled.  If you win an item, pay and the seller refunds saying they decided to keep it, I think that NEG is very appropriate.  If the buyer wins and realises the item is fake, and ask for cancellation, they should be able to leave NEG to warn others.

Super nova, so sorry, don't agree with you on most of the issues here.

I can undestand totally why some sellers whould prefer the neg to supplying the item if they didn't get enough money.

As a buyer I hate low starting auctions, always worried I might win it and I would feel awful if I did, and offer them more money.

I know it's against Ebay rules, so what? What are they going to do - shoot you? Kick you out - oh, yes, real tragedy!

Doesn't anyone think that the poor seller needed more money and doesn't want to give his item away if he counted on more money to pay the bills and perhaps didn't know to start the auction higher (listened to Ebay and their 99c carp) or din't know he can end the auction if there is no money in it?

And those who buy fakes still have to pay for them receive them and check them before they establish that they are fakes or otherwise.

They can then leave appropriate f/back by all means - got no problem with that.

Also, while I think of it:

"leave a NEG to WARN other buyers"

Constant advice flouted on the boards, mostly without any background knowledge, like boardies are on auto pilot!

Were we all suitably warned when we heard on nationa TV that Target was selling fake MAC or Estee Lauder cosmetics - and never went to shop with them again?

Yea, sure, and the pigs will fly ... as they say.

Some of the biggest sellers I have seen on Ebay have so many negs about late postage, about not issuing full refunds, keeping restocking fees, selling fake items, being rude - you name it...

yet not many are dettered as their sales are in the thousands and glowing f/back by far outnumbering  the negs.

We all know that negs on Ebay are just as good as useless, not a true indication of a seller as they are given mindlessly, for anything ...nothing.. because someone told them to do it - and we still buy what we want from whom we want.

You obviously believe that FB should be abolished all together.  You are right, there will be always people who will not look at the NEGs, or they do not care if they are getting fakes, but that is their problem.  If seller takes weeks to post, sells fakes, or does something else that  I am not willing to put up with, I would like to know.

And if seller has a habit of listing at starting low and not going through with the sale, I also want to know.  I invest time in my search, then decide which particular item to bid on, if the seller then decides they are not going through with the transaction, it is an inconvenience for me, as I would have probably missed out on another items, and now will have to start all over again.

When people list they commit to sell at the final price, just as when buyer bids they commit to pay.  If either do not fulfil their commitment they face consequences; bidders with more than 1 strike are blocked from my auctions and BINs.  Sellers who mess buyers around need to be identified so I can choose not to buy from them.

It is not the word I find offensive, it is the contemptuous attitude to buyers, which just radiates from many posts by JHOS staff.

Huh? What? (Coffee splatters on the screen!)

Can't be us, got us mixed up with someone else...

Just asked some of our 15,000 buyers - they say nah... no way... nova must be confused.

On a serious note: don't ever mistake our not agreeing with you to mistreating our buyers.

Will say goodbye now - going shortly for a huge night out, gotta get readdy and it seems to be taking longer of lately!

The constant partying may be a reason, nova. I find many members of JHOS seem to think it's "My way or the highway", especially if they are left less than positive feedback.

I've seen comments about fakes, loose threads being adjudged as not worthy of a buyer even being concerned, much less leaving a neutral or a neg.

absolutely spot on, I have had a couple of dodgy sellers refuse to sell because they weren't happy with the price and just ignore all communication but are still busy buying and selling

I have also had sellers fail to post because they were out of of stock, and all follow up communication ignored until an item not received dispute was opened.

and James thinks this doesn't deserve a NEG LOL
