Buyer listed a different country by mistake?

I had a buyer purchase an item off me over the weekend and paid for it the next day.

Most of his address is australian (eg has listed an address in canberra) but has Afghanistan listed as the country (obviously by mistake)

Problem is he paid for the item and as it was classed as international, has paid for international postage rather than free postage within australia.

He is a new seller with 0 feedback. I have tried to contact him but to no avail.  He hasnt replied to my messages.
I really am at a loss what to do here.

Do i just post the item to the buyer? im also wary of posting it as he has listed afghanistan as the country, and im dicey about refunding the postage as i dont want to be slugged with a defect.

Has anyone got any advice?

Cheers

Re: Buyer listed a different country by mistake?

Me personally, I would do as already suggested and send it registered. At least you can keep tabs on it and know whether it's been collected. If no-one is home at time of delivery, it gets carded and taken back to the PO because it has to be signed for. If it's not picked up, it will get sent back to you (can't remember the time frame for returns) and then you know it was a dodgy sale.

Good luck!

Buyer has since messaged me and confirmed his address

Still, his tone wasnt great in the message and made the point that he paid postage and if he didnt get the item he would ask for his money back. (why would he need to mention this)

Im still wary, so i will use the postage money he paid to register/signature on delivery it just to cover myself

In view of that, I would DEFINITELY send registered! He sounds like one that should be put on your BBL once he has received his item. I wouldn't want to deal with him again!

ok so i posted this item registered with signature on delivery.

Today i get a message from this buyer saying that he received the item... but now he realises he made a mistake by listing the wrong country (no joke mate i told you that 3 times in messages and you never responded)

now he is asking me to refund him the postage cost minus two 70c stamps and the toughbag i sent them in. I actually spent more than that because i regged/signature the package too.

I have no problem refunding him the extra postage he paid minus the costs i spent on postage minus the FVF on the postage i had to pay. In the end it will only be $5.25 that he has overpaid.

My only worry is that the partial refund may result in a defect against me when the only reason i am partial refunding is because HE made a mistake paying for international postage due to him listing the wrong country

argh..

Re: Buyer listed a different country by mistake?

I am no expert by any means but I haven't experienced any defects with the partial refunds I've been doing for combined postage. I think it's only cancelled transaction that affect the defect rate.

Good luck with your situation though. Buyers with problems who don't reply really drive me crazy.

Re: Buyer listed a different country by mistake?

To the best of my knowledge, the partial refund will not generate a defect unless he raises a claim.

I have done several of exactly the same since the shipping FVF was introduced & no defects have been recorded ...... as yet.

A nice reply saying that the refund has been issued now you know he has the item may pave the way to future smooth sales with a satisfied customer. After all, you may as well try to get some extra benefit for all the grey hair you have now aquired educating him.

Given that your buyer's initial overpayment was actually $6 in extra postage, despite the fact that it was his fault that you incurred the added expense of SOD or whatever, I still think I'd be inclined to refund him the entire $6 as he sounds like a real tool and the sort of idiot who would very likely neg you over a miserable 75c if you only refunded $5.25 so I think that 75c is a cheap price to pay to ensure that doesn't happen. And absolutely add him to your BBL as he's the sort of buyer you can well do without.
