Buyer refused delivery and does not reply to messages

Hi everyone 🙂

I recently sold an item (appliance part) on ebay for a little over $100 /$15 post, sent in an australia post flat rate express satchel with tracking of course, I sell these parts all the time and have sold a lot of them, very rarely have an issue.

So a couple of days passed and the tracking updated to "address details incorrect" so i sent the buyer a message asking if he knew what was going on but after a few days the buyer didn't reply, strange!.. I can confirm and prove the package clearly has the exact address of the buyer as registered with ebay

a couple more days go by so i decide to try and call the number registered with ebay but what do you know "the number you are calling is disconnected"

a couple more days goes by and it gets the better of me so I look on facebook and find the guy on marketplace selling an appliance which uses the part that I sold him, being sold for little more than the part i sold him, at this stage i am really sus so I message the guy and let him know hey its me from ebay having trouble getting hold of you blah blah & so on, message is marked read but again no reply.

Had a look through his ebay feedback and he has a few red marks for dishonest transactions and as a matter of interest has in the past sold the same component that he bought from me! and other parts very similar to it, sus as!

I called Australia Post and they confirmed the buyer definitely refused the package at the door and they said he has a while to collect it before it gets sent back but there's no return address on the package so it will end up at the lost mail center a few suburbs away from me, i don't like going there unless its absolutely unavoidable

no case has been opened for not received, im nervous and suspicious and wondering where this is going and would like to keep one step ahead of the game, if that's what it is 🙂

What you all think, what should be my next move or preventative measures to not end with in a loss on this item ..

Thanks in advance 🙂 looking forward to replies

How can it get sent back to you, when there’s no return address?

Get stat Dec from A.P. saying parcel was refused

If you can prove it was delivered to the correct address - stick that in the Stat Dec.

"I called Australia Post and they confirmed the buyer definitely refused the package at the door"

"no case has been opened for not received"

You'll need proof from AP  that the item was refused as , unless there was a postage cost problem, the buyer's not covered by EBay's Money Back Guarantee

The buyer refused delivery of the item

Covered:

  • The item arrived with postage cost still owing because the seller didn't apply enough postage

Not covered:

  • The buyer refused delivery for any other reason

Thanks everyone good advice here.

I don't think its about postage owing, i send a lot of these the same way and never had an issue before, always $14.65.  When i lodged a customer enquiry and spoke to the AP rep on the phone they told me the problem is the address is wrong and maybe the buyer had moved house, if there was a problem with the postage fee i thought the rep might have told me at that point or it would show on the tracking information but who knows.

twyngwyn: It will end up back at the lost parcel office on the other side of town and I would need to prove that im the sender, if I bother to collect it which i most likely wont

Ok, if the ‘buyer’ has moved house….then the new tenant rejected delivery?

It all sounds very suss. If the Op used the address he was given by Ebay they should find in his favour?

ha! what i wondered so i looked online and the house last sold in 2020, not to say its not a rental.

Thing is this user has a relatively active ebay account as a buyer and they used to sell too but havent any current listings and more than one recent negative feedback as a seller, something sus about it..

Its a really common part amongst people in the trade and the buyer has previously sold the same part himself, make sense of it

He got it cheaper/faster elsewhere?

Wait it out & see what happens….
