I am fairly new to the selling side of Ebay and all of my sales have gone beautifully so far. I wanted to get some ideas from some experienced Ebayers about a recent sale of mine.
It was a Pick Up Only sale, the buyer ( very new- no feedback) took just under two days to get back to me after I invoiced them stating that they are away for two weeks and can they pick up the item after that.
I replied with a 'no worries' but asked whether they could at least put the money in PayPal ( it's literally a $6 sale with no delivery fees).
What is the correct procedure here? I'm kind of regretting being so relaxed about the buyers request to hold the item. And has anyone else come across something like this?
Thanks in advance for your help:)

Yes, the OP's buyer could have been phone verified--you are right.
It's just that many new buyers don't do either and so are blocked. I get dozens a month. Only the odd one can buy, as they have set up their PayPal account properly.
You probably should have explained it better, then -
Have a feedback score of 5 or lower and haven't gone through phone verification
As they don't have a PayPal account, they would have been blocked from buying from you. In other words, you wouldn't be where you are now with this transaction. All of this wouldn't have existed.
Seems you think there's a causal link there.

I would'nt give an extension for a $6 pick-up item for the same reasons as others have mentioned ie. they will almost certianly give you the run around with picking the item up, wasting your time and stressing you out. I do give extensions for post items ( have just given one for two to three weeks at the moment ). I figure if they eventually pay I,ve made a sale and not really lost anything, plus helped some-one out. If they dont pay I go through the non payment dispute process and relist. The thing is not to stress about it too much. Pick-up items that go wrong can be very stressfull and I rarely offer the pick-up option for this reason.

For a $6 item. I wouldn't stress at all.
Especially if it was pickup. They turn up and pay or they don't.
There aren't even the postage hassles to deal with.

I agree with green-gifts-mkd that the phone verification block for buyers with 5 or less feedback is a good idea. It may have prevented your buyer from being able to buy from you.
Note: Having a Paypal account or credit card details on file will override this block
As ebay states:
Buyers who haven't gone through phone verification.
If buyers have registered with PayPal or have a credit card on file, they'll still be able to bid on or buy your items.
eBay wants to make sure that buyers meet your criteria. However, if your buyers meet an equivalent requirement (have a PayPal account, credit card on file, etc.), we will not block them from doing business with you.
