Can I post a satchel at standard large letter rate?

I have been using padded bags for a number of years now and are sent as a large envelope, cosing $1.40. I received a phone cover in the mail last week and they used a blank satchel to send it at a cost of $1.40. I know that my goods would fit into this size as they are under 20mm thick, just wanting to know whether Aust Post still class a small stachel as a large envelope?

As long as it is less than 2cm thick and (26 x 36cm)  I don't see a problem.

Yes you can as long as it goes through the letter guage. I have used them many times instead of tough bags

as mentioned what about the padding to protect the item, if it gets damaged you have to refund or replace

Aus Post states that anything you post needs to be able to support 20kg of weight on it

Parcels cop a fair hammering with AP at times and need to be strong. The Letter system seems to be kind on individual articles , probably as they are all flat and light in weight.

Just don't exceed the following:

Length 360 mm
Width   260 mm
Thickness 20 mm
Weight 500 grams

If added protection against bumps/knocks/drops is wanted
perhaps experiment with some sturdy cardboard. I always
keep a good supply of chopped up cardboard boxes cut
to various sizes - cheap/free and not as puffy as padded
bags/bubblewrap etc.

Thanks for all the replies, appreciated.

I'll trial it and see how it goes, customers will let me know I'm sure  🙂

I'm not sure why you would use a satchel unless you have used ones. 2c worth of clingwrap would provide the same level of protection for your goods, and a sheet of newspaper would triple it.
