Hi guys
Someone purchased a bather from my store, never bothered to make payment.
After I sent him/her a message, I only got a simple answer:
" I didn't purchase it".
Well...ok, that's kinda silly enought already.
I replied his/her message politely, then sent out a transaction cancellation request, reason: "buyer purchased by mistake or changed mind".
Now after 3 days, he/she denied the request.
The bather is priced at $40 so FVF is not much, I don't mind losing few dollars; but what if I sold something priced $400 or even more? Is there anything I can do to get FVF back?
There is no option to open unpaid case anymore.

The only thing that can be done now is to contact eBay directly and request a FVF credit - often if you have a clear indication in messages that the buyer didn't want to proceed with the transaction, eBay will credit the fees even if the buyer refuses the cancellation.
Generally, depending on circumstances, I advise buyers that I'm sending through a cancellation request beforehand, explaining that it finalises the transaction and releases them from the obligation to pay. In this case I probably would have replied to their message first. It's also a good way to test how responsive and/or receptive they are.

maybe send them a message along the lines of "I am sorry to hear that your eBay account has been used without your permission. I will be reporting your account to eBay as a hijacked account to prevent you and your account being used for unauthorised purchases. I hope this will not inconvenience your eBay activities for too long, but unauthorised use of an account is a serious matter".
See how that works . . . . and report the account

I would have just opened a NPB. They pay, I get my money, they get their item. They don't pay I get my FVF back, they get a strike.

As above like taralee and dave said.
In these cases the buyer deserves a strike. This is the only way to protect other buyers. And, as you have now found out, sending a request to cancel doesn't always go the way you think it will.

Looks like there nothing I can do but contact ebay customer support huh?
Well....better be careful next time.
Thanks guys.

oops, meant to say 'protect other sellers'.
The trouble is, that you have already sent the buyer the request to cancel which makes it look like it is YOU who wants to cancel the transaction, not the buyer. That is why I don't like doing it.

I have always advocated 'helping' a buyer who says they did not purchase something by reporting the account as hi-jacked to ebay and letting them know how helpful i have been lol.
I would also never send a mutual cancellation to any buyer unless I had made an error in the listing and was wanting to cancel for my benefit.

Just ring up ebay and they'll give you back your FVF. Done it many times, even a $10 transaction that the customer had denied.
