Changing store subscription - when does it apply?

Does anyone understand the effect of changing store subscriptions level mid month? Do you immediately change to the different level, or is it just for the following calendar month?

Well, I looked BEFORE 1 May. I like to avoid surprises.

Speaking of surprises - I haven't got the actual invoice yet, but it seems I have a rebate for half a month on my Featured store. Total bill seems to be listing + FVF + 1/2 of $19.95 + $19.95 - 1/2 of $49.95. So my shop costs me $5 for this month. That's my internet bill covered.
