Cheapest/easiest way for a buyer to return a duplicate item?

Hi everyone,

I've actually never been in this situation before, despite selling on eBay for a very long time, so some advice would be appreciated.

I posted an order to a buyer last Friday (18th) in an eBay satchel. We're both in the same city. Checked yesterday (23rd), no scanning events at all, and no delivery.

Buyer needed the item for Christmas so I messaged her and checked that it hadn't been received. I offered to send another one out Express Post so that she'd have it in time for Christmas. She said she'd send one back if they both ended up arriving.

Well, guess what? Today, Australia Post have finally decided to scan the satchel that was sent on the 18th, and it's going to be delivered to her today - along with the Express Post parcel I sent yesterday.

So my question is: what is the cheapest and easiest way for the buyer to return one of the items to me? I think (?) there is a way to print return labels on eBay, but I don't want to receive a defect for doing so, because it's not a return because the item was unsatisfactory.

She's a repeat buyer whom I've traded with for many years, so trusting that she'll return it is not an issue.

Thanks in advance.

Yes, you are right Joe, but in my experience most buyers who do not want their items because they are late also want a refund.

If the buyer returns the item without accepting it they will not get a refund as it was not lost and you cannot claim not as described without opening it.

i am only going on message 2 on this post telling the seller to tell the buyer not at this address.  thats all.

now if it said return to sender , thats fine.

so whats stopping buyers rts on all goods , what happens then

FYI, that's what AP told me to do as it saves being questioned if you hand it over the counter. Most of what I RTS is because those people haven't lived in this house for 17 years, so I do write not at this address. One time a seller accidentally sent me the same item twice. When he realised he asked if I would return it. Of course I would, I hadn't paid for it. I took it to the PO and asked what the best way to return it was. They checked it over, could see that it hadn't been opened, and THEY wrote return to sender, not at this address.

That said, just putting return to sender on it would probably be sufficient.

I'm hoping that in the new year you can find away to stop having a go at me every time I post something. If you have an issue with something I've written because you KNOW (not assume) it is wrong, then speak to me about it. Post evidence that what I have posted is wrong. I am always happy to be corrected if I give the wrong information. It's how we learn. I want screenshots or links for the correct information, not just the Law According to Joe.

Of course, given you don't use Australia Post, you are an expert on Australia Post procedures. Even more so than AP it would appear.

What seems suss to you is not suss if it is endorsed by the carrier.

As usual, you think your opinions based on 'feelings' trump facts.

Maybe you need to tell the staff at my local PO then. You can contact them at Wombat Post Office. They were the ones that wrote on my return parcel, not me.

I'm not worried about it at all, but it seems to be causing you a lot of undue stress. I have no idea why when it is of absolutely no concern of yours.
