Defect for Cancellation -- Can the Buyer Cancel their own Transaction?

With this new penalties (defect) system about to hit us we sellers will now be penalised for cancelling a transaction even if the buyer requests it.

If the seller raises the cancellation then you are at risk of the buyer rejecting it or doing nothing about it.

Either way you will be hit with the defect. Or not receive a fee credit.

So we are inclined now to just raise an unpaid item dispute no matter what the buyer wants. That way we simply protect ourselves and the buyer gets the strike.

Is there (or will there be) any way that the buyer can initiate their own cancellation request that the seller just has to AGREE with and not be issued the defect?

I guess if the seller rejects the cancellation then it would automatically progress to a UPI dispute.

Any thoughts on this one ppl?

Re: Defect for Cancellation -- Can the Buyer Cancel their own Transaction?

I spoke with CS last week on this defetcts issue.

Was told very clearly that there will be no defect if the buyer requests the cancellation.

And if a defect is issued when you have correspondence from the buyer requesting it then ebay will reverse the defect.

The CS rep I spoke with sounded very knowledgeable and was very clear on this point.

They may have told you that but l assure you, it shows as a defect and they cannot remove the defects for now.

The rep read the buyer messages and could see that 1) buyer purchased two in error by hitting refresh and 2) buyer asked for cancellation due to a 'death in the family' (which translated to buying a cheap item elsewhere and not wanting two).

The messages are there, the cancellations were accepted by the buyers and the defects are there to show for it.

The rep said they were ironing out the finer points of what cancelations were considered defects.

I have already verified here on our end, that the details in regard to the Defect Rate particularly the Canceled transactions, are not yet final. We have been getting reports from other sellers as well pertaining to the defect rate they have that doesn't coincide with the number of Canceled transactions they've had within the evaluation period.

We already have a specific team, dedicated to iron out the details when it comes to the Canceled transactions so it will show the correct data on our members' end.

As of the moment, I am unable to provide an exact date when it will reflect on our members accounts.

Re: Defect for Cancellation -- Can the Buyer Cancel their own Transaction?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to cancel a sale and not receive a defect.

It's a BIN store listing with Paypal payment required on sale, so the buyer has already paid and now changed their mind and wants to cancel and get a refund.

So I think because they've paid they don't get an option to cancel now, only request a return. So I'm considering either:

- Asking them to start a return with the reason 'I don't need it anymore' or

- Cancelling the transaction myself with the reason 'The buyer asked to cancel the order'.

Which of these will result in NO defect?

Will I be refunded my FVF for either of these?

Of course, if I ask them to start a return there's always the chance they do something stupid and select 'It'sdefective' or something, which might possibly alter the outcome too.

Thanks.

Cancel the transaction and make sure you choose :Buyer changed ind or made a mistake" as the reason.  Explain to the better that they will receive a message asking them to confirm the cancellation and that they need to do so to avoid penalties to either party (they are more likely to respond to the request if they think they might be penalised if they don't).  Also explain that eBay will then automatically refund their Paypal payment.  I did this last week, and no penalty resulted.  I did not need to process the refund in Paypal, eBay did it for me.  I think from memory the options had changed from the last time I did a cancellation, initially there were only two options, the first one was something along the lines of we have agreed to cancel, and the second was item is no longer available or some such.  Choose the first and at the next step select the buyer changed mind thing.

Cheers,

Penny

Re: Defect for Cancellation -- Can the Buyer Cancel their own Transaction?

If I go to cancel the order myself these are the options:

1. I'm out of stock or can't fulfill the order for another reason

2. The buyer asked to cancel the order,or there's an issue with the buyer's address

So I will choose the second one, thank you.
