Defects Galore......

So, I lodge an item for posting on 14 Dec the day after payment is received (payment received on the evening of 13 Dec so impossible to lodge until the next day).  Parcel going from Victoria to Northern Territory

Ebays esitmated delivery - 6-11 Days

AP's estimated delivery 13- 14 days

Now if/when the buyer leaves feedback and the question comes up "did this item arrive within the estimated delivery time?" - BAM - a defect if the buyer states no.

Now if the buyer doesn't leave feedback - BAM - eBay slap a defect for Carrier late delivery!

eBay need to get in sync with Australia Post's estimated delivery times.

This is is going to cause a lot of defects for late posting!

Re: Defects Galore......

I don't send too many parcels at the moment, but I've thought about what I would do in cases where I couldn't get a lodgement scan on one, so would be relying on delivery within eBay's ETA.

I think the best solution (still not ideal for obvious reasons) is to increase the handling time, and when you create your postage label via somewhere like eBay, set the postage date to the last one within your handling time. eg If you have a 3 day handling time, and someone buys on Monday, you may post on Monday but when creating the label, set the postage day to Wednesday (otherwise from what I can tell, eBay automatically shorten the ETA, judging from the ones that have been showing on my order details after creating an eBay label and not changing the postage date). That will also mark the item as posted, so you shouldn't get any buyers querying why their item hasn't been posted yet.

Re: Defects Galore......

With the lodgment of an item with australia post, and ebay being able to see what they see, is ebay going to fix the "did your item arrive" thing so it does not show up if you put tracking number into ebays system??

Re: Defects Galore......

It is my understanding that if you upload tracking AND it shows a lodgement scan event within your handling time, then the buyer will not see the postage time question.  If you don't get it scanned as lodged, you get an automatic defect if the delivery scan shows it was delivered late because you can't prove on-time postage..

Re: Defects Galore......

Thanks for the reply Peny, yep i thought that what you wrote was how it went, but only problem is that i buy from sellers that have posted within there handeling time and it shows as being recived by aus post, then when i get item ebay says "delivered" on my buying page, when i go to leave feedback i get asked "did the item arrive but such and such date".

Im dont think its suppose to do that??

Does it do it in pc land??

And if not i think it can be an issue that pc sellers should be aware of.

Re: Defects Galore......

I read somewhere (don't recall where) that if you use Australia Post as your carrier once you upload the tracking number they can automatically "see" the tracking. If the tracking shows lodged within your stated handling time then the buyer does not even see the delivery date question. But clearly from your experience it's not working that way just yet.

you can see the 'handling' time if you click on 'see details' next to postage

Shows on your listings but not on mine. Not sure if that is a chosen option or whether its due to free post/premium service or why

To avoid late delivery points you MUST have a lodgement scan event that occurs within your stated handling time.

Dont think it has to strictly be a lodgement scan just any "in transit" scan within handling time frame. ie if your handling is 3 days and you street lodge and it gets scanned at first processing center within 3 days you are ok. Trouble is when it goes across the countrty before first scan. Lodgement just takes teh uncertainty out of it.

Even if on day 4 its scanned on the otherside of the country this is not sufficient to show it was lodged within 3 days. as it could take 0 days to get from your drop off to across Aus obviously..

if their is no feedback left you do not get a defect.

Nearly all my late shipment slaps are from buyers who have not left any fb, so they ticked nothing. It was ebay labelling auto uploading tracking, then tracking showing late delivery. It is only ignored if there is no tracking to prove your "crime'

But did the tracking show a lodgement scan? If not, that is why you would get the question. Except, as lane-ends has experience of, if tracking is uploaded without a scan within handling time and arrives after eBay's fantasy date, the seller will get a defect. Full stop. Buyer independent - it's automatic.

Which is why I will be lodging at my PO on Saturday or Sunday on long weekends, rather than posting on the Tuesday. So I've got the lodgement scan within my handling time, which eBay considers Public Holidays to be part of.

I sold an item on 25 December. I have a 2 day handling time. eBay reckon it should get to Perth from Canberra by 6 Jan.

That equals SIX (not the SEVEN) business days. Except that there are 2 public holidays and 1 AP holiday in there. So eBay reckon it should get there in THREE business days.

Their phone bill is going to be huge if they keep this up.
