Do I have to accept paypal for pickup items?

I am currently selling some items of furniture.  People keep "buy it now" and then pay via paypal.

I have asked to refund their money and to pay in cash, and they are ok with this.

Do I have to accept paypal for pickup?

What if they pickup and do a refund themselves?  How do I prove they have the item?

I have searched ebay help and found no answer other than there is no seller protection for pickup on paypal!

the difference is a you cant lodge a dispute with paypal or ebay because its a pick up you have picked it up   and if you havent picked it up then go and pick it up .    what do you think ebay will say to the buyer / if you have not got your item go and pick it up

Sure, it would be impossible for a buyer to claim 'Item Not Received', but I'm pretty sure that they could still claim 'Item Not As Described'.

How on earth is it 'not as described?'

If it's  'not as described'  why would you take possession of it?

Walk away - don't buy it

You're not making much sense IMO

i dont think so as they can and do inspect it , somebody else with molre knowlage here might have the answere , the diference is the item is not packaged so they see if for instance the coffee table has no broken legs for instance   and if you brought an electic drill you would plug it in there and there

Well, let's say you're buying a VHS or DVD player. You test that it powers up and seems to play okay before you take it away. When you arrive home, you try watching a full movie and it suddenly powers off in the middle of it or chews up the tape.

I'm 99% sure that eBay would happily refund you if you claimed Item Not As Described for a pick-up item in this case.

See my reply to stawka... not all items can be tested out in full when you are picking up and I'm pretty sure eBay would support a buyer if a pick-up item soon afterwards fell apart.

A common misconception.

You are confusing eBay's MGB, which probably has little basis in law, with Paypal protection.

It does make a difference. Paypal would be a complaint to the FOS, whereas eBay would be a complaint to the ACCC/Fair Trading.

Hmm. It was my understanding that the way that Money Back Guarantee works is that (with almost any item), eBay will reverse a PayPal payment at their own descretion.

Every week we see sellers here complaining about how eBay has stepped in and refunded buyers. I can't see how this would be any different for a 'Pick Up Only' item, provided that the buyer chose to pay with PayPal.

Because eBay's MGB is not payment specific. And yes, eBay would apply MGB even when not relevent. Which is why a seller shoud know the appropriate avenue to complain.

i am pretty sure you cant make a claim with paypal on a pick up what so ever ,but someone will clarify that   if something goes wrong after you have tested it unless i give the buyer a warrantee in writing , thats what happens with secondhand products i mean if you buy a hat and its posted the buyer can say it does not fit because the size is not as discribed ,but when you pick it up you can put it on your head ,  and if your hed got bigger in  months time well buy a new hat
