EBAY Buyer protection offer ABSOLUTELY NO protection to seller.

I was recently scammed by a buyer, a law student, He claimed that he does not know how to install a laser and that the 'defective ' laser could be installed by anyone and that I don't have any evidence. This could very well be true if this was done by someone he knew. (unless he is claiming that I planted it myself or the postman did it). If tampering of such device is treated as a criminal offence, there could be telltales of fingerprints and possibly DNA. If *removed*'s claims are genuine, the evidences would point to someone other than him.

Fact is that I was returned a CD player with the Incompatible 'defective' laser and only became aware of the scam when I took it out and was able to examine it closely

Sorry? I have not committed to buy anything! A police report? Please provide me with more information as I have no idea what you are talking about. what is exactly your accusation?

You did not respond to any of my 5 messages sent on the 13rd and 14th of June. Only when you became aware that police might be involved through a one sentence message, you responded.

You wrote "Sorry? I have not committed to buy anything!..." So all along you have no commitment to buy. Even when you accepted the offer and paid for it. Ridiculous! you are a law student unless you meant you personally see no commitment as you will use the EBay buyer guarantee- no matter what! So you planned the process all along, after careful considerations using your legal understanding. What could be your purpose of going through with it when you can simply refused to pay for it.

what were you sorry about? You changed your apologetic tone.

can't help you with your buyer problem . . . . . but can give you two pieces of free advice about your laser listing:

1 - remove the buyer's name from your listing title immediately

2 - remove the personal details of the buyer from your item description, including their name, address and eBay ID

Failure to do so may see your selling activities cut short on eBay.

Why would you expect Buyer protection to offer protection to the seller?

And as already said....you cannot post information about other members in your listings.

Re: EBAY Buyer protection offer ABSOLUTELY NO protection to seller.

Sellers are basically left to pursue these matters on their own in most cases, so your next best option is to report the buyer to ACORN - this can be done online.

Re: the personal information, please be aware that there aren't just eBay policies about that sort of thing, and you could be leaving yourself open to far worse than what the buyer has (allegedly) done thus far.

Re: EBAY Buyer protection offer ABSOLUTELY NO protection to seller.

OP says 'recently scammed' yet the listing in question is not in sold items.

I wanted to see if it had been listed as working,  or just for parts only

Re: EBAY Buyer protection offer ABSOLUTELY NO protection to seller.

Near as I can gather, the item is a component for a CD player, which houses a laser to read the discs, and either the original laser was taken and swapped with an old one, or a completely different unit was returned.

Selling it would be counter-productive if the OP wants to report the buyer, though, since the unit would be classed as evidence.

I still have all of the evidence from a case I reported last year (and in fact ACORN sent me a follow-up email about it just last week Smiley Surprised Nothing for me to get excited about, but at least I know the "perp's" name is on a federal list that the police can refer to if they're ever reported for anything else, not just a temporary listing on eBay, which - just for your sake OP - is more likely to A) turn prospective buyers away, and B) be quickly forgotten by those who see it. 😉

Re: EBAY Buyer protection offer ABSOLUTELY NO protection to seller.

oh, a CD player. do people still use them? ive got a yamaha CD player in my hi fi system, havent played a CD in it in over 8 years. all my music is on a laptop connected to the amplifier. if i buy a CD i imediately rip it to the hard drive.

nope, dont see a use for CD players any more. waste of money.

whats the value of a CD player? not much i wouldnt think. hardly worth removing a laser from.
