EBAY RIP OFF ON POSTAGE COMMISSION

I have 5 ebay selling accounts and pay ebay handsomely every month when monthly invoices roll around.

This latest B/S is a joke and will simply mean the buyers are going to pay more. When buyers pay more, they buy less.

I have already noticed stand alone web sites are selling products cheaper than a lot of items on ebay, because they are not coughing up more than 10% of the sale price in fees, a turn around from a few years ago.

I'm hoping this rip off move motivates a number of sellers to make the move to Quicksales.com.au and raise its profile.

They charge 0% on sales- that 0% totally free and are a subsidiary of the 2.3 billion dollar carsales.com.au. so it's not like

they are ameteurs or new to selling platforms.

Ebay are way to big for their boots and it seems that we just keep taking the **bleep** they dish out to the very people that got them to where they are.

FEEBAY do not pay for my packaging materials, they don't wrap my parcels, they don't book couriers and they don't deal with my customers that have freight/ shipping issues when a parcel is late or lost, so why the hell should they be getting 10% of the postage cost. Can I refer inquiring customers to ebay if they have a freight issue, even if it's only 10% of the customers?

So they will now be double dipping when they also charge the 2.4% on item price AND postage when a customer pays via paypal which is 99% of them + 30 cents per transaction.

Who gives a stuff about the Auspost discount - I don't use them because the prices are way too high compared to couriers.

I paid a courier $53 dollars to send a heavy parcel to WA last week, the Auspost quote was $91. How does a 10% on postage help me? The joke being of course that Auspost will deliver items that have come from overseas for $1 as per the international postal agreement.

I may be complaining like an ass but I will be offering an alternative to Paypal (Paymate) and I will start selling my wares in other places, but this needs to be enmasse to make any impact on feebay.

Re: EBAY RIP OFF ON POSTAGE COMMISSION

told ebay that it was a grubby cash grab..they told me

this

"These fees have actually been checked based on the needs in the maintenance of the site which is why we had this increase as well"

what about maintaining their sellers..

having a serious "Metallica time to stop holding hands and stand alone" moment aka Some Kind of Monster! and they tell the group shrink time to go....maybe it's time to set up own website and stick the fingers up at ebay..

understand how prices go up but this latest fee gauge sucks..

what a joke eaby is when it comes to fees..

Re: EBAY RIP OFF ON POSTAGE COMMISSION

Thanks for your ire...I am a buyer looking to sell, and take offense at paying for something which I don't benefit from...don't mind them taking a commission on what I sell, but I don't see how with postage when that money is for exactly that...and depending on the particular item free postage is not feasible...a packet of seeds, i'd say free postage...but other bulky items start at $7.20 for up to 500gm...I am not going to outlay that...and those who do offer free postage, factor it into the asking price in a similar listing so what is the point...Australia Post does pretty well consideraing snail mail has reduced but online sales have increased...anyway I am having seconds thoughts selling on Ebay...I am sure I'll be up for more fees...paypal and so on, but getting back it is the principle I'll be getting less for my product because of the extra charge incurred through the mechanism of postage... MOST UNFAIR!

PS.I have never heard of Quick Sales or Ruby Lane...so thanks...I suppose that is because when you google only EBay comes up along with Etsy.

Re: EBAY RIP OFF ON POSTAGE COMMISSION

I had a customer in Singapore who wanted four items totaling $20,  postage was $38 AP, ebay's cut on postage $3.80 and paypal charges on top, He wanted to go ahead with the sale, I told him the postage component of the sale was ridiculous and talked him out of it.

At least it's not as bad as the ones that drag up 2yo threads!

I find it interesting that most of the people above who said they weren't listing here any more 9 months ago have items listed. Obviously Slow Sales was too slow for them.

Re: EBAY RIP OFF ON POSTAGE COMMISSION

Thank you for posting alternative sites to me.

I've been buying from many many eBay sellers and the postage commission sickens me!! I've been posting about it and complaining about it to eBay. The postage calculator on this site always gets the postage way too high; then the poor seller has to refund to me. But they don't get a refund on that extra commission from eBay. It makes me furious!! It's unfair practice. The ACCC should act if the issue is presented to them by enough sellers.

But thanks for the alternatives, as you're right, the postage is way too high. Couriers are far better, and getting more competitive all the time. To heck with eBay!
