EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

Just received eBay's latest assistance to sellers *Ebay's NEW HEALTH CHECK* .

This may be old news but they are moving timed BUY IT NOW and will move all my listings to GOOD TIL CANCELLED. Well that is not what I want but then again we have no say.

This does not suit me for many reasons with something new I like to use 10 days as an option. The rest are 30 day listings which gives me the option to adjust the listings if they are not attracting buyers or watches. I will sometimes group them with other items etc.

I find the 30 day listings far more manageable for my business needs.

So if all fixed listings are good til cancelled I dare say the next step will be for those with ebay stores will be reduced with the amount of fixed listings in their subscription.

Good til cancelled also means there will be a hell of a lot of old stock on there for years or if I remember correctly they were bringing in limited time for listings.

I have had my vent but OH SO FRUSTRATING makes me wonder why I am doing this.

Looks like they're sure going to make a LOT of money by stealth, as Chat person told me repeatedly that all AR's would automatically roll over at NO extra cost.

I'm sure that ebay would be legally obliged to notify ALL sellers of this sort of change because it affects the terms relating to fees and how we're charged for listings.  Even if they aren't legally obliged to email every seller (which they haven't done), I'm pretty sure they'd be obliged to publish any proposed changes that affect fees and charges on the site - which they also haven't done.  There's nothing in the Seller Centre, which is where announcements are made these days.

If I'm right on this, they could be in trouble over it.  They could also be in trouble for denying us the remaining free relists because they were the terms we listed under at the time we did those listings and I doubt they'd legally be allowed to change the terms halfway through (by cancelling the remaining auto relists).  If anyone rings the ACCC I'd tell them about that as well.

I suspect using freebies/charging when they convert listings is a software glitch that they still need to sort out because they did say we wouldn't be charged for it.  Only time will tell as to whether they rectify that error (voluntarily).

@masters, the listings of mine that converted to GTC when they rolled over this morning came off my available free listings so if you've only got 200+ listings you shouldn't have anything to worry about.  You never get charged when GTC listings roll over after 30 days if you've still got unused free listings.

For those who use Seller Hub, on the overview page it shows a link for active listings, then underneath that it shows "ending today" and shows the number, which means you can check first thing in the morning and then click on the link for those ending that day and bulk end them if necesary.

It really is a disgusting move by ebay - I don't care how they attempt to justify it.

To have given so many offers to list for free without restriction on numbers as recently as last December (any many months before that) to effectively encourage people to list lots of items, and to offer 8 free relists on those items THEN to turn around and say they are going to charge for any relists that go beyond your 40 allowance, is just pathetic.

The only way out of this that I can see is to open a store, bu I really don't sell enough to justify taking that step.

I assume its so people who list more than 40 items a month will basically now be forced into opening at least a basic store, unless you are keen on ending your listings 1 day before they end. It's ok to end them now but i suspect in the near future when ending a listing before it rolls over we may be defected if we keep ending a listing due to the options we have to provide, eg item is lost, item is no longer available, item broken etc.

Re: EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

more questions, having found the email 4/2...thanks Brer

going through into the info attached to the email

Listing duration options with the Advanced listing form:

  • Auction-style โ€“ 1, 3, 5, 7 and 10 days
  • Fixed price โ€“ 3, 5, 7, 10, 30 days and Good 'Til Cancelled

so if I click on the advanced listing from link.... it just takes me through to my drafts area  -- what is this adv listing form???

so then I do the auction for 10 days and ticking the box relist for free up to 8x (the relisting won't count towards your free listings)

I hear that some peeps are saying that autorelist box is not there.........perhaps when GTC? and it also says its free and won't be part of your free listings so I'm wondering why people are concerned they will be charged? - what am I missing? TIA

Re: EBAY'S NEW HEALTH CHECK - I think it is seriously SICK!!

If I go to create a new listing, only option is GTC. None of my current BIN's on my main account have converted (next BIN due to end in 6 days). I wondered what would happen if I revised an item, so checked. It kept it at 30 days and the relist 8 times for free box was there, so I ticked it (I previously have left it unticked because I relist on $1 weekends or free listing promos).

My item finishing in 6 days has 1 auto relist left on it, so shall sit back and wait to see what happens. I haven't used any of my 40 freebies this month, so can afford to wait and see what happens with a few items. I'll also sit back and wait to see if the usual $1 weekend promo is still on. If it is, I'll change most of my listings back to auction with BIN option. I will put a note in my descriptions saying that I will end an auction early on request if someone bids, rather than BIN's. I might even add the make an offer thingy.

As for the emails, they didn't appear in My Messages on any of my accounts.

I don't sell enough to have a store. Some months my invoice is $0.00. Why pay an extra $29.95 on top of that?

Yes, I can see that being a problem too, unless they decide to add a few more reasons for ending a listing.

You can end as many items as you like. The only time eBay get narky is if you keep ending items that are auction and have bids. It's ok to end and sell to the high bidder, but if you keep ending without selling, they get upset and are likely to penalise you in some way.

Edit: when I end a listing, I use the "there's an error with the listing" option. If it's something with bids, I select the sell to highest bidder option.......unless I'm ending because the item got broken, which has only happened once.

'There was a problem with the listing' works for me.

Also, when ending more than one item, no explanation is required.

It's not required but when you end in bulk those listings automatically show "item is no longer available".
