EBAY SOLD MY ITEM WHEN IT WAS AT AUCTION BUT WASNT NEAR MY RESERVE PRICE NOW WANTS FEES $132

I put up an item for auction with a close date, reserve set by me as it values is near $3000. 

Ebay awarded my item to a guy who bid about $1000.

No reserve met but Ebay said its now sold.

Took the guys money , I said Im NOT parting with it , it didn't reach my set reserve price.

Not even close.

Ebay refunded him in full but now want the fees of about $132 from me for their mistake????

Does the Australian Government have an Ombudsman for ridiculous issues like this?

Its impossible to try and solve this issues on line, the answer to my question wont be replied to me.

Now I get an email from a debit collector for the fees.

Im not paying one cent to the fraudsters.

Adding a Buy It Now price is not a reserve.

Once a bid is placed, the Buy It Now option disappears.

Only certain categories allow a reserve and your item wasn't in one of those categories

There is no such thing as a reserve price on eBay Australia, except for vehicles.

Did you mistakenly think that a Buy It Now price is a reserve price? That’s not what it is. 

❝Buy It Now option – auctions

❝When you add a Buy It Now option to auction-style listings, buyers can either purchase your item right away at the Buy It Now price, or place a bid. In most categories, the Buy It Now price has to be at least 40% higher than the auction price.

❝The Buy It Now price is available only until someone bids on the item or until the reserve* price is met.❞

In other words, the buy it now price is available for buyers who see the item listed for auction, but they don’t want to wait for the auction to run and are willing to pay the buy it now price. It is only available until a bid is made - then it disappears. It is not a reserve.

* eBay have worded the above a little confusingly. As I’ve already said, the reserve only exists on eBay Australia for listings in the Motors category.

To sum up - if you’ve listed an item that is not in the Motors category, you didn’t have a reserve. If you refused to sell to the winning bidder and eBay was forced to step in and refund the buyer, you still owe the final value fees. You can be angry about this and you can huff and puff at the debt collectors, but you’ll find a judgment against you and your credit will be affected.

The only way you can set the equivalent of a reserve for other auction items is to put the lowest price you’ll accept as the starting bid.

An auction with  Buy it now is not the reserve price

If you wanted $3000 you put that outright as buy it now $3000 or start the auction at $3000

If the 'guy' was the high bidder at $1000 he is the winning bidder

eBy did not 'award it' that is what it sold for

There is no ombudsman for not knowing what you are doing nor was it eBay's mistake 

the debt collects will recover the money you owe, by whatever means they have to use

It is your mistake not ebays, you failed to complete a legitimate sale, so ebays fees are still payable.

You will eventually be forced to pay and by then the debt is likely to incur significant extra fees.

You have being a member for 13 years, so should understand how it works.

The only reserve price is your starting price,  if you started it below 3K,  than its your fault.

Cough up and pay the fee's, and a big apology to the buyer who you played around with is deserved as well.

I realise you appear to have not sold before, but surely in 13 years you would have worked out how eBay works.

Yes, you will go to court and have your credit rating impacted if you don't pay the fees.

As said, there is no Ombudsman in charge of complaints due to self-harm.

Back when we were selling, all listings on ebay were auctions, as far as I can remember.

The first thing I did before we started selling was I went and read the help pages.

I don't think they had the Buy it now option in those days but there was a message that most auctions could not  be set with a reserve price.

It was crystal clear.

And as a buyer, when I first saw the Buy it now tab in some listings, and the make an offer etc, I went and read up about how they worked. It is all important information so you know what you are doing.

If you are going to try selling very expensive items, then you should at least take the 10 minutes or so needed to read through the instructions about how to sell, so you do it right.

It's your mistake. Even after you had the shock of finding your item 'sold' at $1000 and ebay billing you, you obviously have not been into the selling pages to try to discover what is going on.

The reason you are up for the fees is your item sold and you did not supply the goods after they were paid for. That is deemed a seller fault, not the fault of the buyer or ebay.
