Ebay closed all my listings for not being on managed payments. So I go to register for it but they want driver's licence or passport. They clearly told me they will not require these, only my bank account but now they want it.
I certainly don't trust them with my personal documents, bank account/card is well sufficient as an ID anywhere. Currently I'm considering cancelling my store because why pay them $25 a months if I can't sell anything.
I don't like coercion and giving out my personal details to complete strangers. What's your take on this? And don't say "if you want to sell you have to do it". It's not about that.

The point is that I'm still researching it and yes I do sell on other sites with only bank ID.
Which brings me to a question. While I'm reading Ebay forum, few people mentioned they had to submit a bank statement (maximum 3 months old). Is this true? Why would Ebay want to know how much money I have, it's not of their business. I find that hard to believe. You're on MP , can you confirm that it's true

Another furphy, my 2 accounts that transitioned didnt need bank statements. There is a lot of BS put up about requirements.

Providing a bank statement is one way of proving a bank account in your name, you should also be able to download what is known as a proof of account document, from your bank and provide that instead of a statement. No matter what document you decide to use, it must be dated and less than three months old.
I used a POA document, so I know for certain it is accepted.
Edit. Ebay do not need to know the balance, they could not give a rats if you only have 50c. But the account must be in your name and match exactly with your ebay particulars.

I would definitively never give my ID to FB, TW etc, that's just asking for it. Problem with Ebay is they give the details to some 3th party and who knows what they can use it for or who is gonna hack their systems. Even Paypal never asked me for such details and they handle most of my online sales. They have my address, phone and bank, thats as good ID as one can have. People can easily be tracked by bank details but law needs to be involved and that's fine with me. But just giving it way to anyone to do as they please with or digging in my private life without my knowledge, that's a big no no. World is not as safe as it used to be.

Yes I thought that would be ridiculous asking for bank statements but in all honesty it wouldn't surprise me. Thanks for clearing that one up

Somehow I do not think you will like the micro-deposit verification method

ID requirements are not a whim of eBay's, but part of legislation that governs the payment system eBay has transitioned to. There is also legislation surrounding data retention and security that eBay must comply with - to put that in context, you have already given permission for any eBay rep to access your account data in appropriate circumstances, like when you contact them with an issue and they ask you to confirm your details - they are checking your responses match the data they have, but this would not be your ID, or bank account info - that is stored and encrypted. In fact unless you send through a visual copy, it's doubtful any human would ever clap eyes on it, rather your identity would be electronically verified.
If you're genuinely worried about how your data could be accessed and used, I'd recommend asking your local government representative why we don't have a federal human rights charter, one that protects and grants rights to us over our own data, like other countries have.

Somehow I don't think OP will like any method, they couldnt come on here and complain. I have found with most OP's, they carry on, say they will shut their shop, but you go back a month or 2 later and they have heaps of listings, so they have realised they need Ebay.

They did require bank statements initially (you were free to blank out the transaction details), but apparently not now.
