Are Ebay trying to get rid of the little sellers? I am new to selling, just trying to get rid of some stuff to help pay for decorating my house.
I was lucky enough to sell a piece of jewellery and between Ebay and Paypal, I have paid over $104 in fees, to say that I am amazed is putting it mildly.
I read the fee structure but didn't 'comprehend' just how high the fees would be.
I have also noticed that there are a lot of watchers but they don't buy is this normal?
What can I do to reduce fees and entice sellers to buy?

Now I'm concerned, I had never heard of 'keyword spamming' I thought that I was giving an accurate description of the item.
Austeam I followed your link and my heart sank. In a previous listing I described a shoe as being 'like' Birkenstock, Ebay removed the listing and told me why and I didn't have a problem with the reason fro removing the listing. However, Ebay did not remove this listing so I did not realise that I was 'keyword spamming'.

Hopefully the buyer has not read this thread and is very happy with their purchase however it would be wise not to spend the money from that sale until you are certain they are happy.
Where problems arise is with the word style not jumping out at you like the brand Georg Jensen.
Then the fact that it is 9ct gold looks like a bit of an after thought in the listing but I would need to go back and read the lisitng again before I stand by that statement (I'm being very lazy today:-D).
I don't wish you any ill will but am just trying to point out where you might have some problems.
Years of reading about problems here make us aware of what can go wrong in a sale even when the sale was a honest representation of the item.
You will find some buyers will think that you are out to rip them off and those buyers don't allow for human error of any sort.
(BTW some sellers are right royal pains too, so it is not only buyers)

The more recent listing was not removed because nobody reported it!
Far fewer people would be searching for the bracelet than for a pair of shoes but the more recent listing would have been removed in a heartbeat if it had been reported.
You usually cop a policy violation when a listing is removed and too many of those could see your selling privileges suspended.

Hi Bump,
Thanks for your advice and I do realise that you are trying to help me.
I hope the seller is happy with the ring in reality it cost more than the buyer paid for it and truthfully I have never heard of 'word spamming'.
Lot's and lot's to learn I think:-)

Phorum as an Ebay 'veteran' you are very quick to criticise. Are you so jaded that you believe everyone is out to do the wrong think.
I am new to selling, I have a lot to learn and certainly did not attempt to mislead anyone!!

The reason why using such comparison in the title is not allowed is because it is very annoying if somebody is looking for GJ ring and the search throws up all the "style of" or "like" GJ. Inexperienced buyers may very well think that when they put in search "GJ ring" they get a list of GJ rings, and they may miss the "style of".

eBay wants this to be a global (professional) marketplace, where items stand on their own without need for jazzing up, etc. E.g. like all the other BIN professional online stores that just list the title, year, brand or item type (CD, shovel, etc.)
Most of us keyword spam to some extent and eBay makes millions from buyers finding via keyword spam text. It's just that, technically, alot of the stuff in the title may not be allowed. I guess if a 'jazzed up' title could cause misappropriation problems for potential buyers, just stick to the basics in a title.
