Ebay should be more fairer to Australian Sellers

If Ebay Australia is going to allow overseas sellers(predominately Chinese) to sell on Ebay this is fair enough, but I believe Ebay should be more fairer to Australian sellers by making that all Australian seller listings appear first in the list when a person types in a search word.

The way the system is now,a person has to go to the left side of screen and click "Australia only" to only see Australian listings and this is a lot of effort and causes a great disadvantage to Australian sellers.

If Ebay made it that that Australia seller listing appeared first, then this would help Australian sellers to compete better and at the same time it wouldn't be too much of a disadvantage to Chinese (or other) sellers as they still could sell on Ebay and Ebay would still make money from their listings/sales.

Can I get your opinions please?

We will have to differ on our views on, it being wrong, that eBay is being run as a Chinese market place but I do love the way you look at things and I am sure that has played a big part in your success

As I say we will have to disagree on that and if you interested in knowing a little of why I feel how I do check out ebay.cn they do not even sell anything ti is just to inform Chinese sellers how to get the top listings in other countries. One other thing without searching I would wager that the same discussion is also on the US maybe Canada and the UK eBay forums.Aus is not the only market China is flooding (with Ebays blessing) and local sellers are being forced off.

I am actually a pommy but one Aussie expression I love is 'A fair crack of the whip" I just wished that applied to eBay and Aussie sellers

Also do not forget eBay when it started (not that long a go) was a market place to aid local sales it is only recently they have turn to wanting to push globally ( which means 90% Chinese) and force out local sellers. As you can I can make it in this market but I believe this market should benefit Aussies and I would bet buyers feel the same and a lot do not realise they are even buying from Chinese sellers and sending millions of Aussie dollars out of the country

Character party:

I haven't accused anyone of being racist nor do I think anyone is being racist. How ridiculous.

Of course it was always going to happen....it's 2016 after all  I dont see any racisim on here nor do I think anyone is racist

--------------------------

Character party, you are the one who said:

It's such an "Australian" attitude to think that you have the right to appear first in listings on an Australian site because you're Australian'

You are the one who made it into an issue, stating that it's an "Australian attitude".

Which I take as a snide go at all aussies.

Those were your words, no one else's.

Those were the words I was responding to. I'm sick to death of people (I'm not necessarily speaking of youSmiley Happy) who jump on the slightest perceived negativity towards other nations but think it is perfectly okay to put down Australians.

Personally, I don't have any problem with ebay being an international selling platform but I do think it would be good if buyers could set their search preferences to either one time or ongoing, rather than have to tinker every time.

I've bought  from overseas but there is no denying there can be a downside for both buyer & seller, either in postage costs or if items are lost or damaged or need to be returned.

Posters who feel what i propose is an "Australan attitude" need to be aware that the Chinese Government has just imposed a tax for its citizens for Overseas based purchases in an atempt to boost sales of their own domestic products.

Guess the Chinese Government are pretty "Australian" in their thinking too Man Wink

But they already boost Chinese sales by heavily subsidising postage to other countries, resulting in online market-places like eBay being flooded by their local items, which I might add are in many cases poorly-made copies of other manufacturors items.

Re: Ebay should be more fairer to Australian Sellers

In my opinion, a bigger issue is that eBay allows large sellers to misrepresent the location of their items. Many sellers from Asia list their location as Sydney or Melbourne, yet drop ship their items from Asia to logistics companies here, who then forward packages on with Australia Post. Sadly, these companies can deliver items only 3-4 business days slower than sellers located here in Australia. Ebay makes a lot of money from these sellers and many complaints to them have fallen on deaf ears. If they listed the location of the items honestly then I feel many eBay buyers would be happy to pay 10-20% extra to support an Australian business. My assumption is that eBay is happy to turn a blind eye because the overall volume of sales and large catalogue from these sellers makes it worthwhile for them.

If you are going to be average nowadays in retail then you are not going to be successful whether you are Aussie or anyone else.

You need to be exceptional to be successful in retail.

If "by exceptional" you mean tricking your buyers then some Chineese sellers have achived the top score in it.

Have you seen what they are doing with multiple variation listings? They create an item with variations for example for Samsung Galaxy 7 phone but add a headphones as a variation for $1, a case for $5 and the actual phone for example for $900. Then they use a title as "Samsung Galaxy s7 phone"

So when somebody is searching for exactly the same phone model this listing will stay at the top as the cheapest with a price rage from $1 to $900 No supprise a buyer who is looking for the same phone model will  see and open that listing first and some buyers may be too lazy to check if other listings with the same phone model have cheaper prices and simply buy from that tricky listing.

These type of listings are flooding ebay these days. They have even flooded with them their Aliexpress store so as you can see they are very more inventive than exceptional. That is actually another reason why ebay should have "Australia only" as default option.
