Hi am going away for 2 weeks. I have over 500 items listed. Asked ebay and their great idea was to go and edit each 500 listings to mention im away or to make my postage times to post much longer. Or do i just take them all off? and then pray they have a free listing when i get home to put them all back on again?

if you go to selling/sold tab, then
select active listings, then
tick the all listings box, then
select the action box and chose end.
You will be able to end all listings
Hope this makes sense

But if they are auction items they don't automatically relist do they?
Unless the seller has chosen that option by ticking the box

Have you tried through the Seller Hub? Easy to end multiple listings there.
1. In Seller Hub, go to Listings>Manage active listings.
2. Tick the topmost box on the top left, which will add a checkmark to all listings displayed (you can change the number being displayed at one time down the bottom right of screen - 25, 50, 100, 200 from memory).
3. From the menu item Actions, choose End (which is the first choice, outlined in red in my screenshot). This will start the process of ending the selected listings, which can take several minutes if you have chosen to end a lot at once.

If you have 500 listings, it would probably be worth it to subscribe to a basic store for under $30.00 a month.
Stores can be put into vacation mode and there is an option to prevent buyers from purchasing at all.
