Re: HELP!

Sounds like a scam to me - don't send the lap top, cease all communication, and as a safety precaution change your passwords to all your important accounts, as well as run a spyware etc scan.

The following is some information that will help you deal with this transaction, and help avoid it in the future.

If an ID with good feedback wins your auction then asks you to post to Nigeria, it means the Nigerian Scammer has hijacked another member's account to place bids.

If this happens, you can report it through Account Security Live Help:

http://contact.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ShowCUPortal&guest=1

and / or the webform :

Account Security > Unauthorised Account Activity > Report another userโ€™s ID as stolen

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/contact_us/_base/index_selection.html

When an account is reported as stolen, eBay generally remove the listing, email you and refund your listing fee although you may need to request a final value fee.

Check your Account > Seller Account ( top of page ) in your My eBay.

If the final value fee has not been refunded ,you can request it through Live Help General Support:

http://contact.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ShowCUPortal

Or by email:

Selling and managing your item > Fraud and Transaction Problems > Getting a final value fee credit when buyer doesn't pay

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/contact_us/_base/index_selection.html

If a newly registered ( 0 feedback )Nigerian Scammer wins your auction, report it through Live Help:

http://contact.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ShowCUPortal&guest=1

and / or the webform :

http://pages.ebay.com.au/help/policies/identity-false.html

When the member ID is NARU (not a registered user) you can file an Unpaid Item Dispute through your Account > Resolution Centre (top of page) in your my eBay using the reason "buyer is no longer registered".
Your final value fees will be refunded to you immediately.

Put these buyer blocks in place. Go to:

My eBay > Account > Site Preferences > Postage preferences > Show >
Exclude postage locations from your listings from your listings > Edit .......
and Select the countries you donโ€™t post to.

Tick โ€ฆ Apply to all current live listings
Click โ€ฆApply

And

My eBay > Account > Site Preferences > Buyer Requirements > Show > Edit .......and tick:

1. Buyers in locations to which I don't post
2. Block buyers who haven't gone through phone verificationโ€ฆ
3. Only apply this block to buyers who have a feedback score of 5 or lower
(Having a Paypal Account and / or Credit Card details on file overrides this block)

Tick all other blocks of your choice.

Tick โ€ฆApply above settings to active and future listings.
Click โ€ฆSubmit

Do not use a BIN (Buy It Now) option when relisting your item.

Beware of further spoof / phishing emails you may receive . Do not open them and do not click on any links.
As a precaution , run all your spyware, keylogging and virus protection and change your passwords ( something which should be done on a regular basis anyway)

Re: HELP!

If she has good feedback she probably IS legit, but you still don't have to send anything until you have received cleared payment into your Bank Account. That is standard eBay practice and any repeat buyer should be aware of it.

Bank Transfers do take longer than Paypal, so it is up to her to weather the extra time, not you.

Re: HELP!

Buyers can only have good back as they can not get negs so that means nothing.

NEVER post anything till the money is showing in your bank account.

If it is not there with in 4 days of the sale ending then open a non payer dispute and 4 days later close it to issue a strike and get your FVF refunded.

IF the buyer leaves a neg call ebay and they will remove it.

Re: HELP!

As said, Don't stress, just tell her it's policy not to send an item until payment is cleared into your account. You will soon find out if it's legit or not. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Re: HELP!

Good feedback is not necessarily a sign of being genuine. Accounts get hijacked all the time and that is exactly what this looks like.

The buyers account has bid on many items in high end categories over the last day or so.

As long as you dont post until the payment clears into your bank account then you should be fine. Dont be pushed into sending before the payment clears no matter what they say.

Re: HELP!

she sent an email from a suss bank saying the payment was transferred

Which bank & is the buyer is Australia?

Scammers tend to stick with Paypal, wanting posted to Nigeria,an oil rig or somewhere strange & fake emails from Paypal saying your money is being held-never heard of one using bank deposit.

I would explain politely that you will send it same day as cleared payment.  This should be accepted gracefully but if the buyer gets unpleasant about this you could be sneaky and tell her you'll send it asap but don't send it.  If the money comes through post it same day, if it doesn't then lodge an unpaid item strike.

I would find it very uncomfortable to say I've sent it if I haven't but but would do it if I felt suspicious . . . Might buy you some time  . . .
