Heated words

I sold an item and buyer paid via paypal with an eCheque meaning no CC on file ok thats fine but then this buyer has gotten very heated as I sent a message and said once cleared I would post .

Well that is not good enough she sent me a message saying she has never had to wait before that paypal has always paid her sellers right away ,I said I think you are mistaken as nobody has the money at this pont .

Then I get another email saying she has rang paypal and paypal have told her she is an excellent buyer not 100 f/b yet for buying ..And that yes she has been paying with echeque and because she is so good the payments have been made straight away no waiting .But now she has told me paypal have just changed there policy and no longer pay straight out on eCheques but this buy they did.Mind you they not  [and would not ]

So now I am getting threatended with neg feedback because I did not post as soon as she paid .

I think there needs to be a big notice atating that the money does not clear straight away ,I know on th message they send me there is but not sure about the buyers message are they told ???Or are some just alittle slow on the uptake ???.

Re: Heated words

Hi XXXXX, many thanks for your purchase.  As you would be most likely aware, an Echeque payment takes considerable time for Paypal to process, sometimes up to a week.  But please be assured, as soon as I receive notification from Paypal that the payment has cleared (you & I will receive an email), your item will be posted that very day. Many thanks for your understanding and business.  Please do not hesitate to contact me anytime if you have any concerns...regards Paul

Very nicely said.  Stay polite at all times no matter how heated they may get!

If she doesn't accept this you may like to add that for both parties to be covered by Paypal in a dispute you (the seller) need to abide by their policy - which is to not send item out until payment is cleared and showing.    If you were really patient you could send evidence of Paypal telling you this also.

Re: Heated words

The only time I ever got a so-called echeque, it 'bounced' after a few days. Luckily I had not sent the item to the fraudulent buyer.

Inexplicably however, eBay had marked the item as 'paid for' so the phoney buyer did not get a strike.

I had a buyer cancel an echeque, but since they'd 'paid', I couldn't open unpaid item case to get my fees back. So I rung eBay, got my fees refunded, and eBay asked if I wanted the buyer to get a strike. I said yes please.

Re: Heated words

When a Paypal payment is cancelled it takes some time, often a few days, for it to filter through to ebay and for it to become unpaid again meantime as others have said a phone call to ebay will usually sort it out soonest.

Re: Heated words

I had one exactly the same, and as advised above send the paypal notice you got.

I took a screen shot of my paypal advice - please post once funds have cleared....seemed to suffice for my buyer.

Remember to add them to your bbl once you complete the transaction also.

Re: Heated words

The buyer is certainly being dishonest. I agree that there is no way Paypal would have told the buyer how wonderful they are and mentioned their feedback let alone given them this incorrect advice regarding echeques.

I had a friend sell an item she received as a gift for her third child. The winner bidder bought it for several hundred dollars and then paid by echeque. The winning buyer begged and pleaded to pick it up early as she needed it urgently for a baby shower. The echeque bounced and my friend was left with no item and no money. The police could not assist her, but did tell my friend to be very wary of these types of scams when selling on ebay as they get calls about them all the time.

The fact that this buyer claims they pay by echeque all the time and the payments clear imediately rings alarm bells - one for the BBL for sure.

Paypal do have Preferred Customers who have a special phone number to ring if there are any problems.

Maybe that is what the OPs buyer is talking about.  Paypal does tend to stroke their ego so maybe the buyer is just putting her own interpretation on her advice from paypal.
