I have been Threatened

ive sold an item and now the person who bought it has broken it and wants a refund after 1 week...i said no as they have damaged the item and i will give a part refund(not full)...they are not happy and have threated to break my legs,send bikies over,throw bricks at my house windows and basically threated to bash me if i dont give full refund...please note that these are 16 year old kids that had a fake address and contact details on ebay so i only have their phone number and also rego plates of their mums care(when she drove them to pickup item from my place)

What would you do in this situation?

i have now traced their names and  addresses!!

i wont give in....maybe they are messing with wrong person?

Please keep yourself safe, but I do agree that the only way to deal with bullies is to stand up to them, and tell people (police) what they are doing.

If you give them money in exchange for your safety, they do it to the next person and the next and so on.... That's extortion.

On a wider level, these bullies are barely out of childhood and if their mother isn't prepared to teach them right from wrong, you're actually doing them a favour by letting the police try. It might be the only good "parenting" they get.

Walk Away. Give them their refund. Its not worth the hassle.

What a silly idea, why would you let a couple of 16 year old wannabe thugs swindle you out of a dime.

If came down to it I would rather get thumped and see them in jail than give them a cent, sure they would store up a lot od street cred with their so called biker friends by bashing a disabled old granny!.

Giving in to them would just add to their mindset that they can get away with anything, now the police have spoken to them, and hopefully their parents too, I doubt if there will be any repercussions.

 Perhaps send them this and tell them you will see them in the playground!

Hi there bjmonty, if you can read all the posts you will see I said, stop communicating with them and call the cops.

You got in late here, so if you have something new and helpful, that would be great.

To use eBay, you need to be 18...eBay can get rid of their account for that alone.

Threats would also be grounds. That way they won't be doing this to anyone else on this trading platform.

Maybe that did not make any sense to you.

It is not responsible, where anyone's safety is concerned, to advise anything except talk to the cops about the best thing to do.

To reiterate my first post, as bjmonty obviously missed it:

"Keep copies of all your emails.

Don't talk to them anymore, report them (with all correspondence) to eBay. Customer service is top right, then contact us, then in a few steps you'll get a code and phone number to call.

If you don't get a phone number, go back and try other options until you do.

Speak to your local police and tell them exactly what the threats are, if you seriously feel they're going to come after you. See what the police think. Give them the registration.

That's what I would do, but I hope there's someone else who can advise you better or in more detail, reading that I'm a bit in shock. That's horrible.

No threats, from strangers who have been at your home, should ever be taken lightly.

I work in a criminal field. I talk to cops all the time, you can never know how threats will turn out. I'm glad the cops were notified and took some action.

The opening poster was afraid that he might have his home damaged... they are just petty thugs who will back off with the involvement of the police, is the most likely case here, but who knows? Unless one knows them you can't say what they will do.

Phorum junkie, I hope you really do not mean you'd rather take a beating, if this was happening to you. A couple of hundred dollars is not worth that. At all.

The opening poster's safety is the issue here, and trying to stop these teenagers trying the same game over and over.

He has done the best he can to protect his safety by going to the police. It's now up to him whether he wants to give a refund upon return of the item or not.

Do not under estimate the value of making a full report to the Police with the details you have. Submit all emails,photo,listing details, damage details and car rego.

They cant help if they dont know.

its very unlikely that i will get bashed...cannot ever see it happening even if they tried

my concern is my property as they will do it when no one is watching as they are gutless

im not scared of bikies or fighting...thats nothing.

anyway police have been involved by phoneing them..they didnt take a report (cops dont care about things until someone gets hurt)

I also have all these kids details but i hope i dont need to act on these details as i dont want to go jail.

if they leave me alone its a win win for both of us....if they dont its a lose lose.

Welllllll...you can defend yourself up to a point without getting into trouble yourself...but if you see them call the cops.

I expect having had a call they will move on.

Keep everything, yes, because if they start up anything you might need to look into a restraining order, again, don't see it going there.
